speeding ticket in Nj/need some advice

Got my first speeding ticket in almost 5 years 88 in a 45, but the trooper put down that I had a NJ plate when I actually have a NY plate. Anyone know if the ticket can be nullified?. In Ny they do not sure about NJ. or am I dead

You could prove that you don't have a New Jersey plate and say it wasn't you.

You need a lawyer to push a legal issue like that, which will cost less???

And how much to just ignore it????
As it may get lost in the system when it comes up void, unless someone has that plate number in NJ

yep gsp, near sayervilleext 125. Never saw the cop or the posted speed limit either. My freind said that NJ has a 2x rule, they give you a ability to pay a stiff fine when you make a deal with the prosecuter and you get no points. Thats what he said he did. The plate is new. Never was pulled over in Nj before for anything. I don't mind paying some $$$$ as long as I don't get any points or lose my license. Was thinking about a lawyer as well. My freind suggested that I wait for the ticket to post on line and then call the courts

If you get notice about this,,,go to court with it,,,,NOT guilty,,,and the judge will say its an invalid ticket...not written properly, reasonable doubt that it was you....

go to court plead not guilty, they will cut you a deal, where you have to pay money but no points. they can care less about points they want the money.

Could it be that his handwriting was not that clear and it appears to be NJ to you when it is actually NY??? He still has your correct License # and other information on you to say it was you was going WAY over the speed limit.

I would no go into court pleading not guilty based on what you have stated here, I am pretty confident that you would be found guilty rather quickly and either lose your license or have your insurance go up significantly or both. I would suggest hiring an attorney and trying to work out a plea agreement.

Yeah... saying it wasnt you is not going to work at all.

The officer did not fill out the ticket until after he stopped you... So if you go in there with a ticket that has your name/address/license #/ and tag number.... that YOU HAVE in your possesion.... They will never believe that the ticket was 'supposed' to go to some other car..... that just happened to have the same tag number as you.
At that speed, the officer was pulling over the car... not the tag. So that kind of mistake wouldnt be made.... and if you tried to say it was.. they would laugh.

Get a lawyer... He can argue that its a null ticket and get it dropped. If you try to do that alone, they will bully you into admitting you sped, and paying anyway.

well the plate on the car is NY , but he did put down NJ. In the state of NY the ticket would be thrown out based off of my past experiences. Now my freind did tell me that NJ would rather have the money to excuse the tickets and the points. If thats the case I will glady pay the $$$ to not have any concerns. Thanks for all the help everyone

NY or NJ written on the ticket will not void or nullify the ticket...it's semantics and most likely a simple mistake or illegible printing. There are 5 or 6 copies to 1 ticket and you get the last copy.

If it were the plate #, date of birth, location of stop perhaps...and maybe a stretch time, but if ALL the other information in the ticket is correct, you will be wasting you money on a lawyer to get it dismissed. He may get the infraction reduced, but 88 in a 45 is reckless driving.
