Would FBI tracker void warranty?

A student found an FBI tracker under his car during an oil change and the FBI demanded it back. I couldn't help think if his dealer found it they would claim it was an aftermarket addition and voided his warrant?

The addition of aftermarket parts does not automatically void your warranty...

No need for a warrant are freaken kidding? I guess that pesky 4th amendment to the constitution just keeps becoming more and more optional.

They should have smashed it before they knew who put it there. "I didn't know it was Government property."

For real - I assumed you need a warrant for any type of intrusive surveillance and tracking a car should count. With our camaros, they probably don't need any tracker, they can just ask OnStar for reports.

What I found totally bizarre about this story was that the FBI went to him and demanded the tracker back after it was found, telling him "We're going to make this much more difficult for you if you don't cooperate" and hand it over. WTH? Once I found something you mounted on my car without my knowledge, and I have not committed a crime, how is it yours?

I'm not totally against spying on people who we need to spy on... but I say if you're spy gear gets discovered you lose it. Should have been a better spy.

That kid should go to a hardware store and get some copper mesh and form it into a cube shape with no bottom. Place GPS tracker on granite counter-top and place bottomless mesh cube over the GPS tracker.
(It's called a faraday cage and it prevents any signal of any kind from exiting)
Oh noes! The government can't find me anymore...

Or just ship the tracker to afghanistan c/o of Osama

The "big brother" thing is a little creepy but on the other hand - If the FBI thinks they need to track this person, there just might be a good reason to keep an eye on them. 9-11 was a wake up call and a game changer.

I say give them back their divice.

I'd rather have the FBI or any other protection agency use these than have to use man power to follow possible criminals or to follow those who could lead them to criminals.

If the Gov. wants to listen in on me and my wife talking dirty then so be it. Makes no difference to me.

I'm not doing anythning illegal so I don't care. If I were doing something illegal then I deserve to be caught.
