Yep, now if I have XM on or local radio I either won't get an alert at all or it will alert me and switch over to apple carplay and not go back to radio.

Ugh, this stinks... I love listening to XM! For me if on XM it will never play alert or switch over.....

But with WAZE it does switch over from XM, but will stay in Bluetooth/iPod mode! I have to then manually change back to XM! Wtf... Does your WAZE alerts switch back to XM?

So would this be feasible if I wanted to mount a go pro there? It draws power using a micro usb if my memory is correct. How would I go about tapping in with that? Mirror tap wouldn't work for me as I can't use the phone line piece that radar detectors use.

Would I have to use something like this?

Last week I got me a dash cam and a hardwire kit. Sadly I ordered the wrong hardwire kit for it which I returned to Amazon and ordered it directly from the guys who make the hardwire kit. It will be here Monday. My dash cam has a micro USB and the Fuse part of the hardwire kit, I have no idea so I contacted thedashcamstore and they looked it up in their system and sent me the correct one. I will post it up once I get it and actually confirm it's correct. The camera is actually TINY which works perfect as I hate clutter. Even the blendmount + radar detector bothers me lol. The dash cam will be mounted behind the rearview mirror towards the passenger side so I won't even see it. It has a suction cup with it so it'll be good. I have an awesome car cruise coming up 1200+ miles Friday so I will test out the dash cam before that and post a link of the video as well.

Sure thing, I am dying to see how it will turn up haha. If only Chevy actually gave the 2016 models PDR... Would've gotten it in a heartbeat! I will post a link here once I do the write up. It's literally the same size as a regular business card but thicker but not much thicker than my cell phone (droid turbo).

Huh? Airbag???? Not sure where you got that. Wire red to Purple/White, and black to black in the overhead console..
Those are switched 12V which you are converting to 5V Micro with that adapter.

So, I had success. I followed this guide and received power to my mounted GoPro. I have it set up to loop record videos.

One problem I didn't consider is that the GoPro will not auto turn on when I power the car on, but it will auto turn off. So, if i want to continue to use the GoPro, I will have to press the record button upon getting in every time which is frustrating. I guess I will need to buy another camera unless anyone has suggestions.
