I use Mobil 1 M1-113A, their bypass valve set point is 22-28 lbs.

I run a Baldwin 7422. Made in the U.S. by the same company who makes Hastings and Amsoil filters. I think the company is called Clarcor or something like that. Its bypass is 20 PSI. Will likely switch to the Baldwin 7449 which has the same bypass setting. Their the same filter other than the 7449 is the long truck filter.

It’s possible that I’m overlooking it, but I’m not finding any information that backs that up. Edit: I did find some info, from the ‘corvetteforums’ but it’s pretty limited, and coming from a source that isn’t ‘official’, I’m not sure how much stock I put into it.

TTT.
I can't lie. I bought the updated PF64 for cheap on Amazon, and I am just not impressed. Let me just say it looks like shit IMHO. I will not be running it. I've run Baldwin filters for the last few years, but when I changed the oil on my 19 SS I was very impressed with the older design PF64 that came factory on the car. Just a very well constructed and beefy looking filter. I was very impressed with it and thought why not go back to factory seeing as it's pretty much made specifically for the GEN5 SBC. While I'm sure this filter would do the job fine or GM wouldn't endorse it, IMO looks are important as this updated filter looks cheap and very budgeted. Just because any given broad gives good sex, if she's ugly I ain't with it. (or that's how I was before I got married) This new car isn't a cheap purchase, so when I change its oil I want to be impressed with the oil and filter I use. This new design just come across as a budget move. Again the old filter seemed like a very well built part, and this new one just seems cheap. That thin metal screen on the top of the bottom of the filter is the goofiest, most stupid looking thing I've ever seem on an old filter. I put it on the same level as using cardboard in an oil filter. GM should explain WTF its purpose is for. I view this update as a budget, cheaper to manufacture update as opposed to an improved filter performance design update. Again the filter will likely work okay because GM says it will, but I just don't dig its design, and will be sticking with my Baldwin, or using a higherend Fram or a WIX rated with a similar bypass as GM claims you should run on these cars. |

Thanks for this info! The store I went to actually had both, so I ended up going with the older part number to give me more time to research this more. I did think it was interesting how much more surface are the plastic cage offered compared to the metal with holes in it. That may not be the bottleneck in flow, but thought that was interesting.

your dealer is selling you a non GM filter made for Opal. Its probably cheaper for him to buy.

The new part number (12696048) is specified in the owner's manual for the 2020 Corvette. If that's what's called out and validated on the top dog C8, it probably performs as good or better than the older filter (just speculating).
Interestingly, the 2020 Camaro owner's manual calls out the old part number for the V8 (12640445) and the new part number for the 2.0T (12696048) -- both take PF64. That's probably a mistake in the owners manual since 12640445 is not really available anymore and superseded by the new filter.
