Exclamation Trouble - dash cam won't stay on

I installed my dash cam using the power tap found here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used this guide to tap into the power from the guide here. (basically, just tap into the plug for the airbag light)
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=440419

So, the problem that I'm having is that the camera cycles on and off. It'll come on, start recording for a couple of seconds, then turn off. Then come back on, then turn off. And, if it stays on for any amount of time, the screen flickers regularly, and the buttons on the left side of the camera flash on and off.

Any ideas what the problem is?

Have you tried using it with the 12V accessory socket? Just to verify the camera isn't the problem. Will help eliminate the tap too.

OK, so I hooked it up with the 12v accessory socket. That works fine.

So, the issue is with either the adapter, or that the plug doesn't supply enough juice.

Does anyone else have a problem running a camera off that plug?

I ran mine to the front fuse box since I wanted always on. I downloaded the firmware from rexing that enabled the motion detection, so sorry can't help you.

Have you tried checking the voltage on the plug to see if it is fluctuating? If it's not, then my guess would be bad ground.

Did you use the black and purple/white wires for the taps?

Sure did. But, it might be the bad ground. It was hard getting the probe end into the plug. It might not be secure. I'll have to check.

That airbag light could be a 5v reference source if it is a LED bulb. I bet that camera needs 12v, you would be better off running the power/ground all the way down to the fuse panel.

Many people running cameras and radar detectors off it. It's definitely 12V.

That's what it seems like to me. I had trouble with one of the wire taps not making a good connection for my Radar detector.
