GM 12609623 (angled) Oil Filler Tube and its notch

Saw this thing

on a parts list under

https://youtu.be/1IkFYjPDrtY?si=-sERuyZhjs7gvrOk

Linked with the funnel I think it would be very nice.

However, this text

"GM Angled Oil Fill Adapter:
https://amzn.to/3zKJ7Az
This adapter has a revision. It has a tab that needs to be removed before using, otherwise it can lock into the valve cover. If that happens, you can remove it by using a pick tool to lift the tab. This adapter is NOT meant to be permanently installed in the Camaro."

I think this locking mechanism is meant for semi-permanent installation, i.e. with valve cover removal to remove. It mentions a pick to move the tab but I don't have something that can get at that angle.

Wondering if anyone used/uses this, and has broken off the tab, and how they went about it/smoothing it out/etc.

I realize I'm veering into the range of 'why bother' - the rest of the funnel setup described in the text can probably flow even at an angle.

I have same adapter and I trimmed off the square edge of the locking tab to prevent it from engaging. I Just used a Olfa razor blade.

I think I get what you did - can I (and posterity) get the other angle on that (from above the cut - i.e. turn it toward us 90 degrees) to see how far back you cut it?

Thanks
Matt

Why does the tab need to be ground off?
There is no need to turn the adapter 90 deg to get it to lock, if you do the opening is sideways (pointing to the back of the car).
You only need to push it into the OE filler on the valve cover and then connect the Motive MX2302 funnel.

No, you are right! it installs at about 11 o’clock and I rotate it to about 1 o’clock for the O-ring to create half decent seal. The reason I rounded it down is just in case accidental engagement.

During my last oil change, I just cut one of the quart bottles on an angle and used that as a funnel.
