Those are the only two 5/40 Dexos I can find here in the US.

Just make sure none of that oil makes it to the exhaust somehow if you still have cats. Zinc kills cats.

Curious if any Mobil 1 distributor can get the ESP 0W-40 for a better price if you buy bulk. I think one can just buy like 20+ bottles at a time and be good for 2 years or so. Oils don't go bad if you don't open them.

No 5w30 is certified as dexos2. Just dexos1 but must be full synthetic. Still the best choice for street cars imo. Heck, i tracked my modded c5z on 5w30 for over a decade with zero issues. Mind ya, a different motor. Anyway, 5w30 used to be a c7 and gen6 factory fill for years, so nothing wrong with it and much cheaper too. Just not authorized for track. Cheers!

But I agree, in a mild climate, the difference between 5W-40 and 0W-40 is negligible, especially once you are up to operating temperature. Sent from toaster or something

Heck, GM themselves permit a 15w oil in a ZLE lol! So for anybody using their car in summer only, paying extra for 0w which is an extreme winter rating is a complete and utter waste of money. I would even argue that 5w weight is a better choice for summer only driven cars, as it will provide for better protection at start up. Cheers! |

The cam heads need the zinc and a thicker oil. This oil will be fine, I am definitely not going for the record of highest mileage when the majority of my miles will be 1/4 of mile at a time.

The Mobil1 ESP 0W40 dexos 2 is only like $8-9/Qt.

Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 is Dexos 2.

The M1 15w50 has a 40C viscosity of 125! So it will take almost twice as long to reach all the moving parts on a cold start in the summer compared to 0w40. That's why GM says you can't use it for street driving. But is' 100C viscosity is 18 and its HTHS is 4.5 (vs 0w40 ESP's HTHS of 3.53), so it does provide better protection on track. *"Cold start" meaning when the engine hasn't been warmed up yet, not meaning a cold ambient temperature.

You want the 0W-40 ESP Formula, which is DEXOS. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Mobil...ts,371931.html |
