I have a 2016 2 ss with about 38k miles on it . I have had the shudder issue for some time now but I ignored it as it wasn’t so bad . Now at 38k miles when I’m driving it feels like I’m going over rumble strips . I only notice the issue when I am doing light acceleration or if I am staying at the same speed for a while especially highway speeds (60 mph). The only time my car does not do this is when I am in manual mode and prevent it from going to 4 cal mode . At this point is it even worth it to take to the dealership or should I wait a few months when they come out with the supposed fix ?

Just wait. There is nothing other than a flush that can be done and you'll be right back in a few thousand miles.

Whats really odd of the situation, its not really a "limited occurrence" at this point. I just read through ALL 15 pages so far, and some really seemed like if they could get physical over this, they would.

I get it. there hasn't been a fix so far, just a band aid.

Further, the odd part I find... we have direct injection. its been proven catch cans help. so theres been a decent amount of solutions and brands to accomplish this.

the 6L90 and 6L50 had rebuild companies, and torque converters on deck by year 3 and 4, to improve performance.

are there many other options outside of Circle D for a torque converter?

a few pages back, Norm and Josh pretty much brought up a solid point in posts #177 and #179. an aftermarket torque converter.

with that being said, are there any aftermarket places, like Jasper, or LevelTen offering built up units? that's what blowin my mind on it.... no aftermarket company is "capitalizing" on GM lackings.

Thanks! Glad someone found the info useful.

The 8L90 is a strong transmission, the torque converter and TCM programming just need fixing. Circle D, FTI, and now Yank (https://www.converter.cc/category_s/140.htm#) appear to offer torque converter replacements. So couple that with a TCM program and you should be in great shape IMO.

Just dropped mine off at the dealer with this problem for the first time. Started a few days ago. They told me they can’t do triple flushes anymore, only a single flush. Anybody heard this before? I suspect the guy is full of crap, but I couldn’t get him to change his mind.

Don't doubt it as it won't fix it and they know you'll be back in a couple months for the alleged fix. If one flush gets you by until April you'll be set for the recall/TSB. I just hope it's a recall so I can be done with this.

It will not be a recall. A recall is only for a potential safety risk. This will be a service bulletin/product update with a possible warranty extension.

No free A10 upgrade for us either, I guess

(just joking of course, I tend to think I understand how things work in the real world)

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they offered some kind of dealer credit or cash refund for those affected. Ford did that with their dual clutch transmissions, something like a $2000 check to those affected. I'd gladly accept that!

Two grand would actually be very nice. Pays for a new fortified torque converter and even a few extras, say CAI or brake pads.

That said, my A8 is tuned already, so I'll probably be watching this from the sidelines, whether or not I had the tuning done in time

Sonovabitch. I got my 2016 that April. I started having this exact problem 6 months later. Dealer dismissed it as normal. Ever since its gotten significantly more pronounced. never took it back because I probably foolishly trusted them. No I check in and there's a bulletin and fix for this EXACT issue?! Now at 40k miles i'm almost nervous to even ask my new nearby dealership (I moved) to look at it. Its a lease that's up in 2020. Should I even bother of am i risking someone hitting me for excess wear (beyond the fact that I'm severely over budget on mileage right now).

You are covered by the 60k mile powertrain warranty.

Kinda. Just got off the phone with my new local service center. Turns out they have had the same complaints from a handful of others so they actually know what to test for. The woman actually stated exactly what the rest if this thread said. Engineers are on it for a fix in Q1 2019, a flush may fix it but may or may not be permenant. Problem is, my bumper to bumper is up so a flush is NOT covered. But if it was diagnosed and i held out for a fix, if it even comes, then powertrain would cover that.

The silver lining here is that i have a dealer that knows the issue and how to diagnose it. The trick now is that since its my only car, when to drop it off for diagnosis.

definitely. good to know as well. I own the 8l45, but both use a 258mm TQ converter.

trying to see if there are any differences between the two, and if not, its just gonna be a matter of finding a core to send down to em and let em play with it. also I know Tracy Lewis is coming out with one as well. but not sure if its drag racing based as they are doing a lot of work with two of the cars running the Overkill S/C
