Will 2009-2013 ZR1 carbon rotors swap to the G6 ZL1 OEM hats?

Most of the posts say to use the C7 Z06 rotors (394x36mm) or C7 ZR1 rotors (394x36mm with additional heat treating) but when I checked the C6 ZR1 rotors, they are also 394x36mm.

Just curious, since you can swap the OEM G6 ZL1 hats/hardware to the carbon rotor rings from a 394x36mm rotor for a C7 Z06/ZR1, would the C6 ZR1 work too in that way? They are notably cheaper on Ebay. 1369.99 vs 1599.99 each.

I thought the pad shape was different on the J57 brake? It’s not the ZL1 pad shape.

Can’t use the CC rotor with a standard pad.

I believe all the GM carbon fiber rings to be the same dimensions no matter the application...even the '14-'15 Z/28 are the same so logic dictates the C6 ZR1 would also work. The correct hats for application can be swapped to any of those rings.

Yeah that's 100% true, specific pads are required for CCM rotors. This might require a caliper swap too in order to make everything work...

The C6 ZR1 and the C7 Z06/ZR1 all share the same caliper as the ZL1 the only difference being vented pistons on the vette’s. Being that the rotor is the same diameter and thickness I see no reason a ZL1 hat wouldn’t make it compatible with our cars. Yes they do use different pads but that is for the ever so slight increased radial depth of the CCM rotor from our 390MM to 394. This wouldn’t cause a need for a new caliper.

So, if I am reading this thread correctly... Any Vette carbon rotor could conceivably fit our ZL1 hat... The Calipers will work as is... We only need a different set of pads...

So, which pads would be best for this?

Correct, theoretically any 394x36 CCM rotor with our hat should fit on the car, I would probably just get OEM pads from the Z06/ZR1. They do a fantastic job on those cars already and dust is a non issue with CCM so no reason to go aftermarket for performance unless you find a better bargain.

Here's a good thread on Carbon Ceramic brakes for these cars. I know Rabbit swapped C7 Z06s on and they fit OEM ZL1 calipers. $2900 and saved 34 lbs.
