Clicking sound coming from steering wheel when moved around dead center position
I'm not sure if it has always been doing this and I am only now noticing or not but when I move my steering wheel from dead center, or back to dead center, I am hearing a slight clicking / popping sound coming from the steering wheel. The larger the turn, the louder it is. slight nudges arnt loud at all but more noticable when going straight as any flucuation whatsoever causes it to happen.

Sounds like it is coming from the steering system, rather than the wheel. I wouldn't wait to have that checked out.

I took it in - they replaced the steering column but I got it back and unfortunately its still doing it. I don't really feel like taking it back, but I should ask does this sound like something that can become potentially unsafe?

Had to drive it to and from Atlanta, for which it did it mostly the entire trip and has somewhat gotten worse. Also there seems to be alittle bit of play in the steering wheel where there is absolutely no resistance for a very very minute portion of a turn in the dead center position.
I got it back to Austin and as soon as I took it into the dealer.. ..it stopped.. after putting 3,000 miles on it and it continuously did it... but I did notice something else, it seemed to have ease up on doing it whenever I used my windshield wipers...and it also seems to happen even if the car is at a dead stop and off. Given they replaced the entire column, is there anything else that could cause that? |

The issue was resolved.
It turned out the steering wheel bolt was loose and was rubbing against the airbag. |
