Stock 2017 ZL1 M6 Launch problems
Lets keep this thread on topic please. Let us 2017 ZL1 M6 owners have a thread to ourselves to bring this issue front and center to the powers that be at GM. There is a definite problem with hard launches, the BOGGING down is just ridiculous. I've seen stock SS M6 cars getting better 0-60 numbers than the ZL1. Seems that the car is pulling way too much timing. Lets get some videos in this thread to show GM the problem.
Here is what we have so far. please pm me your video and I will add it to this post. https://youtu.be/RDSAKoMhVNM

Here:
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=498180 EDIT: The separate thread appears intentional. This thread being specifically limited to launching, while Travis' thread geared toward drivability. My thoughts are they are one in the same. Launch, be it a hard or soft launch, is a VERY difficult thing to accomplish smoothly without a bog to some degree with the M6. However, after launch, I don't feel I encounter any drivability issues. So the answer to both threads is a resounding YES.

The OP and I discussed the creation of this thread earlier today and decided it was best to keep the launching discussion specific to the '17 ZL1 M6. Several people have had success launching the SS, SS 1LE, ZL1 A10, etc. consistently and it's not helpful when those folks chime in and say how great the car launches. Also, the '18s ZL1s may have their own problems, but we know the software is at least a little bit different. So it's probably best to keep conversations about the '18s separate as well. I'd also like to kindly ask everyone to refrain from posting mechanical theories about tall first gears, clutch engagement points, etc...
The problem is not mechanical nor is it driver error. It's already been confirmed that a tune can address the launching issue (if one chooses to void the warranty). In other words, we know it's a software problem. |

Speaking for myself............
Sure adjust the tune to eliminate the bog issue at launch but I spent a lot of money on a car and do NOT want to void my warranty. What bothers me the most is there were many CTF cars out there and nobody driving those cars brought it up the ladder??? -Bobby

So, just to get quick background. I did do the recommended break-in but I also didn't just baby the car. Meaning a few spirited runs on highway but not exceeding the recommended RPMs etc...When I took it to the drag strip after break-in, I couldn't get it to launch without severe bog. Went through all combinations of Track/Sport PTM combinations. Was a huge disappointment! What best worked so far was Track and hold TC down for 7sec to turn all off then either feather clutch or modulate pedal to get off a decent launch. I've never been faster then 1.95 with 60ft. I've raced manual cars for over 30yrs with as little as 250hp (thank you 1980's) and had better 60ft times.
Now, once she gets rolling, holy hell! Hold on baby she's a runner! Love that about this car. https://youtu.be/I9dBqKBK3U0 This is footage at the Va 1/2mile this yr. I had 12 runs and ran 5 Hellcats, a Z06 or 2 a couple Mustangs and couple imports. Great, great fun! This is my 7th pass and against a C7. You will see it and hear it, falling on its face at a meager 2-3000 RPM launch. IT SHOULD NOT DO THIS!!! I was in Track and RACE. The rest of my runs that I did great at were with all off(the 7 seconds TC hold) It is really the only way to launch this manual car without looking like an ass! Like you don't know what you are doing! Please, I hope GM helps fix the software issue. I love this car! But this issue sucks.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...al-test-review
Here's a link to a Car and Driver review of the manual transmission ZL1. They clearly had issues launching the car. They mention "engine bogs" , and describe getting their best results from launching at 2,000 RPMs. Ask any drag racer if that sounds right... Optimal launching for this car should be near peak torque (~3,500-4,000 RPM). The Car and Driver journalist assumed the launching problems were due to the tall first gear, but since guys are getting their cars tuned and no longer have the issue... it's clear the problem is in the software. I'm pretty sure by launching at 2,000 RPM they were simply minimizing wheel slip which helps to avoid the Wheel Slip % problem I keep talking about. |

Here are some of my time slips. Pay particular attention to the 60' times. They're pitiful.

I just got the car and obviously haven't launched hard, but just wanted to chime in and say its also pretty tricky to modulate it off of a stop light even.. its either slipping a bit more than Id like or bogging if I go light on the throttle. FWIW, Ive driven manual sports cars for 30yrs..
This is a bit off topic, sorry, but even when going slow it seems to me like something software-related is interfering.

When you decide to do a 0-60 run, video it and post to this thread, I predict BOGGING city...
