Huge thanks to Rudy@Tire Rack

Wanted to say thank you to Rudy for helping me resolve an issue that made me really regret getting a 6th gen.

Long story short, the dealer recommended a tire size that made my camaro look like it had been lifted.

Rudy stepped in and helped me get into a new set of tires and I couldn't be happier.

Tire Rack just got a life long customer for every tire purchase my family makes.

Thanks again Rudy -

Yeah share this info with us please. Glad you got it where you want it now too. Haven't used Tirerack before but i've checked them out. Usually it's the shipping and local shops that match or get close to the price that throws me off.

Sure - so when I swapped my VFS1s (9x20 and 10.5x20) to the gen6, I had the following:

275/40/20
315/35/20

The rear driver side rubbed (known issue), and the dealer refused to secure the wire harness and instead recommended replacing my tires with the following:

275/30/20
305/30/20

Dealer couldn't get that size for 7 days, so I called Tire Rack and had them delivered the next day for install, but the wheel well gap was unusually large, almost 3 inches. the overall stance of the car was horrid.

At that point, the dealer stopped communicated with me, so I asked Rudy if he had any options.

Based on a few members on C5, we chose the following:

255/40/20
295/35/20

IMO these sit perfectly and the wheel well gap is less than 2 inches. I will post pics later this week.

Hope that helps.

Pics?

This is concerning as most are recommending the 275 and 305 size for new wheels.

I deleted my old pics to clear space on iCloud unfortunately, I will take pics of the new tires later this week.

Edit: See post #3 here: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=459156

The issue I think, was not the 275 and 305, but the 275/30 and 305/30.

Most people recommend 275/40 and 305/35 which both give me more sidewall/height.

Why would anyone recommend a tire that tall. Our cars don't even run a 275/40 in the rear, let alone the front. It's gotta look like an Escalade.

This site is a great tool to use to avoid these kinds of problems. It will tell you everything from ride height change, arch gap change, and even speedometer error percentage. It's also great to check out what size offsets you should run to match your OEM setup and clearance Do your research people. Don't trust the dealer to do it for you.

Which is why I went with what the dealer suggested, except they didn't look right. Then I did some more searching and found several members running the tire size I ended up with, and I am a happy camper now.

Even an aftermarket wheel, I can't think why they would recommend such a tall tire. a 275/35 would obviously work.

Sure, and way better than 275/30/20, which is what the dealer sold me.

The 255/40 and 295/35 are almost equal height.
