LPO 56F

So the black split spoke LPO wheels (56F)... is that a $200 upgrade? or do have to buy the whole set?

this is an accessory, I think they're going to cost 3400 to 4000 per set!

I was told the 56F was an LPO option. And usually those run $2k+.

I was told by the dealer, that when a customer orders LPO wheels, the vehicle is shipped on steel rims which are then sent back to the factory when the LPO wheels arrive and are installed.

He also said that because of this, if the LPO wheels haven't arrived at the dealer by the time the car has, the customer won't be able to take delivery, because of damage liability of the steel wheels as well as the handling issues that come with running non-standard tire/wheel sizes.

I don't believe this to always be true (if ever?) If the wheels you buy are dealer installed, typically you get them as an extra set in addition to the original wheels. Now on the wheels options that are only a few hundred dollars, what your dealer said might be true...assuming they don't come from the factory already installed.

But for the wheels that cost a couple grand or more....that's the cost of the extra set of wheels. If the dealer is keeping the stock set without telling the customer they actually own the wheels that's pretty much theft in my book.

Checking out the Corvette ordering guide shows this on the wheel options:
Quote:
LPO, Z51-style Satin Black with Red stripe aluminum 19" (48.3 cm) front and 20" (50.8 cm) rear wheels, includes wheels, center caps and caps and wheel lock kit. Genuine Corvette Accessory. 5YZ can be ordered with other optional wheels. When ordering 5YZ with other optional wheels, 2 complete sets of wheels are being ordered. Please ensure customer desires both sets of wheels before proceeding to place order with LPO wheels 5YZ
However, the Camaro side doesn't say this.

I'd be a lot more comfortable if it did.

No one seems to know yet. It's frustrating and driving me bat nut crazy.

The odd thing is my order listed 2 rims 56F and 56S. I am assuming the 56F is type and 56S is size.

56F LPO, 20" 5-split spoke low gloss Black wheels
Maybe.

On my order, I picked my favorite factory rim, and if I really want black ones, I can order them from the parts department for hopefully not too much more.

My Order just has the 56S which are the 5 Spoke Silver which is what I chose.

The trucks arrive this way and i wouldn't be surprised if the camaros started doing it the same way. Shipping the cars with steel wheels also keeps the nice ones from being damaged in transit/on and off haulers.

I have seen the boxes arrive on some LPO rims... I would almost want to take my chances of the rims on a train and truck over UPS and FedEx.

I am going to be pissed if the dealer holds my car for any long length of time due to waiting for rims.
