Chicago Area V6 Mod Shops
Hello everyone!
I have a 2018 Chevy Camaro V6 that I am looking into doing some work on. I am looking for everyone's input as I have very little experience here. First off does anyone know of any shops in/around the chicagoland area that have experience working on V6 engines? The few I have reached out to have been very kind but unable to help me. I am looking to do some bolt ons like Cold Air Intake, some kind of exhaust change. I have also been looking at Overkill's tune as well as their throttle body and eventually the supercharger. I have also seen some threads about a possible diff swap on the car. Any and all input would be appreciated! |

What are your goals, and what will you be doing with the car mainly? I have a 2018 V6 with a Flowmaster axle back, and Airaid tube and filter. It's just my daily driver

I just want to add some power to the car. Faster 0-60 time and make it a little louder. At this point I'm not really looking into drag racing or anything like that still a daily driver. I currently have flowmaster exhaust and while I like it it seems to lack punch in the higher RPM band.

Do you have the American Thunder axle back?

I think the American Thunder is the only axle back that Flowmaster makes for these cars. I'm surprised you get drone. Mine doesn't drone at all. When you say it loses it past 4000 rpm what do you mean exactly? You mean it loses power?

No the drone drops off almost completely. I'm not 100% on the axle back I'd have to double check it as I had a shop install it. |

Gotcha. Other than some sort of forced induction a good E85 tune would probably be your best mod for power. Seems like CAI's, and exhaust so very little for these cars

Yea that's what I figured as well. The exhaust is for sound not power and the CAI is supposed to help the super charger if and when I get it. Anyone have experience with Overkills tune? Or have one they recommend?

1. K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake 2. 80mm throttle body from Overkill (which can be enlarged to 84mm by Soler Performance and tuned by Overkill. Here's the discussion on this topic: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=570184 ) 3. Ported Intake Manifold from Overkill 4. Overkill Tune 5. Borla ATAK axleback (quad-tipped non-NPP) I don't regret installing any of these mods as I feel they gave the car a deeper tone at idle, much more aggressive growl at 3k+ RPM, better throttle response and a bit more pull at 4-5k rpm. And your engine will stop transferring power from V6 to V4 with the tune. Any questions, just ask. |

1) What would you estimate was the total cost? 2) Is the jump from from 80mm to 84mm worth it? Or just go to 80mm? 3) Did you do the work or a shop? If it was a shop near Chicago can you recommend them? 4) With the overkill tune did you do the TCM swap or unlock? 5) Have you been able to get a sub 5 second 0-60 with those mods or is more needed for that? Thanks for you time! |

1. Throttle body, ported intake manifold, and tune was around $1100 if I remember correctly. Prices are listed on GetOverkilled.ca for an exact price. CAI was around $150-200-ish I think. Exhaust was $900-ish. 2. I haven't had my 80mm converted yet, so unsure. But plan to eventually. 3. I did the work myself, except the exhaust. Everything is bolt-on, but came with zero instructions. So read up carefully and watch a couple videos on YouTube. Not hard, but I had to modify my CAI pipe a bit the get a proper fit. The pipe elbow was pushed into the fan housing. 4. I haven't unlocked my TCM yet. When I do, Will will retune for it. And running without the TCM tuned is quite noticeable. The transmission does stay in gear while under moderate to heavy throttle longer, but cruising sucks as the transmission will keep you at a gear where when you need power, you'll need to paddle down a gear or 2 to get it. Most likely my next mod, but not looking forward to doing it based on where the TCM is located. 5. I haven't tried a 0-60 on the vehicle yet as I can't seem to find the gauge for it. Not sure if a 1LT has that mode. |
