After reading the reviews, I am thoroughly confused between the 2LT V6 and stripped down 1SS... Does the 1SS already take the $1300 gas guzzler tax into account in its base price? How much change should I expect in the insurance cost.. an approximate is fine.

Thanks SuperSound and SledgeHammer... thats a breather!!! and makes the decision harder :P... After calculating all the fees and sales tax, I am just seeing a difference of $1000 between 2LT and 1SS.... I wish someone could just make this decision for me ...

Get the V6. You can always do stuff to make it more powerful, even as powerful as a V8, but its a bit more difficult to add all of the gadgets that comes with the 2LT to a 1SS.

i'd be going directly at performance-only stuff. i am looking for a "driver's car" versus a cush commuter. hence, this is what i'd want:
[QUOTE=BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet;8598608] ¨ 1AJ37 Camaro 1SS $36,300.00 + DFC $995.00 Option Packages Option Code Description List ¨ WRS RS Package $1,950.00 Cooling Package ¨ Y4Q Heavy-Duty Cooling and Brake Package with WRS or RPO RTH (20" wheel) $485.00 Suspension: ¨ F55 Magnetic Ride Control $1,695.00 Wheels: ¨ RTH 20" 5-Spoke Low Gloss Black Aluminum $800.00 5JL 4-Piston Front Brake Upgrade Kit $2,175.00 5LQ 6-Piston Front Brake Upgrade Kit $3,175.00 ..... the 4/6pot brakes seem pricey and i wonder how necessary they are for HPDE/track day duty. hopefully the standard brakes hold up with some pads/fluid. also the magnetic ride is questionable, i would want to drive it to see how it is. the car would most likely be going on aftermarket suspension eventually unless it really just doesn't need it (which would be nice). thanks for sharing the list! |

You can't get the RS package with an SS trim, but fear not, all the items in the RS package are included in the SS trim!
Also, the SS comes with 4-pistons stock on all four corners, so you'd only need to get the 6-piston front upgrade kit. Oh, and if you're looking for pure performance, don't go with the magnetic ride suspension. Do aftermarket track specific and tuned. MRC is great for a multi-purpose car, but you'll have better track experience with track suspension.

biggest contender: 2016 mustang gt performance pack with recaros and manual trans ... no other options
other considerations: Audi S3 (major cons: very few out there in comparison, little support from forums regarding track usage, no manual) BMW 228i or M235i (biggest con: much smaller and i want to be able to put two car seats in the back in a pinch or for a family joyride, also m235i is several thousand bucks more on top of being less useful) and the final consideration is to keep my current car, a 2016 M3. i love the thing and do think that it's "worth" the money for what you get. I just don't get to use it often enough and if i can drop my monthly payment by $400/mo that gives us more play/save/pay-down-loans money. the M3 is my "perfect" car for where i'm at in my life but most of the time i'm commuting a couple miles away and it makes me feel guilty as a father/husband. haha. |

Question on the "Ground Effects" (Front splitter/side door sills and rear)
Do you *have to* get them in body color, or can you order them all as "Black"? I'm on the fence on body color and it centers around the answer to this, because I love the Blue or Red with Black Rally Stripes and the black 5 spoke wheels, but only if I could get the black ground effects, as I feel it would really round out the package. Also, are those items factory installed or dealer installed (need to know because dealer installed options are not considered legal for SCCA autox in the 'street' classes) and that would make the answer really clear. --kC |
