We pulled off shortly after that and figured out how to turn that crap off. I've been driving for 28 yrs now without an accident. I don't need a car thinking for me. |

More people need to remember this. Put it down & drive... if something comes up that needs immediate attention, pull over.

It will be installed when Chevy decides to no longer provide manual shifting cars, or when the Fed makes it mandatory. which is said to be 2020. Chevy already ended manual's for pickups.

It works with a manual. Chevy quit offering manuals on trucks years ago, long before pre- collision braking. Has nothing to do with it. |

I don’t even want the computer shifting for me.. let alone stopping/steering. The less computer involvement the better.

If they want to install nannies on cars, I don’t care as long as there is a way to turn them off in the info center. Most people would leave them on anyway.

Perhaps even more so now that difficulty with shutting off cruise control (Fiat-Chrysler) has come to light. It's at least partly a software problem, and while a reflash fixes it you so have to wonder how many more undocumented and as yet undiagnosed problems remain with any of these systems. Norm

I've daily driven '60's, 70's and 90's high horsepower american muscle in modern day traffic for years. Some of these vehicles still had 4 wheel drum brakes. Rear ending a person has never been an issue. I even lost the rear brakes on my '63 c10 once and still got home safely (albeit slowly) without rear ending anyone.
This kind of technology is just 'feel good' crap mandated by politicians and consumed by people probably drive like crap themselves and assume we all need it.

People have been gradually becoming risk-averse over the past 50 years or so. Only some of that has been due to greater awareness of safer detail design choices. But with that, a whole industry has grown up that still needs to keep finding things to fix/change in order to justify existence at the current level. Norm

All of today’s cars use electronic cruise that goes through the ECM, even if it doesn’t have radar. |
