White exhaust cloud on start up

I remote started my car this morning and during the 30 or so seconds of initial higher idle a significant amount of white exhaust smoke came pouring out of my tailpipes.

I did some heavy pulls and highway driving last night before coming home, so it's probably just excess carbon burning off?

I wouldn't worry about white smoke unless it smells like coolant.

Nope. Steam. Hold an empty beer bottle in the stream and watch it condense.

Actually white smoke can be bad if it lingers around, if it sort of dissipates quickly, thats normal. If it hangs in a cloud and floats off 100', thats bad. I had a '08 STI that did that one morning and the f'in thing had a #4 ring seal blown. POS cars!

As a preface I did get my oil changed at the dealer yesterday, wondering if it could be related to that.

+1

Normal water vapor

Check coolant level as a precaution

That's strange and looks a little bluish to me. If it's a cold start the exhaust system would not be warm enough to emit steam. Any water vapor from combustion would first condense in the pipe until it warmed. That means the smoke is something that burned in the combustion chamber. I think some oil may have leaked down. Also might be unburned fuel from a leaky injector.

That is too thick to be condensation, headgasket failure possibly since it's white. Definitely take it in asap

Fuel will be darker white
Oil will be blue

Coolant level normal = no coolant going out tailpipe

Coolant reservoir empty, or almost empty? Head gasket.

I was serious when I said I wouldn't worry unless it smelled like coolant. Go out and smell the cloud. If it smells like dexcool, then you know you have some trouble.
