Randy Pobst buys Turbo 1LE!
Neat to see a car guy with his kind of street cred buy one of these cars. Just goes to show how capable these turbo camaro's can be. Can't wait to see him throw down some lap times!

Are there any videos of people putting down close to or better than v8 track times with a modified LT 1LE? Genuinely curious because I feel like there is tons of power to be made up with aggressive tuning

I might have gone with the turbo 4 if I could've modified it for E85 and kept my warranty, or had an extra few grand in pocket change for a new motor.
SS 1LE with no mods and keep my warranty was a better deal. SS 1LE looks way better too.

I wont say too many details, but I know that Motor Trend took a ZL1 1LE to an autocross and was slightly slower than a local stock 4cyl 1LE that was there. In autocross the 4 cyl may have a chance to be quicker, but on a big track the V8 will dominate.

Does anyone have a link to that original post by RP? Edit: Nevermind, found it. That is cool that RP is in the 2.0 1LE club! Maybe he will sign up to the forum.

I'm super glad he finally got one. Im not surprised that he went for the turbo, actually. And what he wrote about his reasoning is perfectly on point. The 2.0T is simply the best bang-for-your-buck drivers car on the market.
I almost feel like this will make a bunch of people go out and order a 2.0 1LE. |

Can confirm, autox and big v8 = fun, slow mix.. and we run fairly fast, long courses.

No auto for the 1LE. I have heard him talk in some of his videos that its getting harder and harder to beat good automatics on a race track.

Randy takes chassis over HP any day and is use to it given his Miata days. No surprise here. In capable hands chassis beats HP any day. My only concern is long term reliability and the whole high stress/low stress argument. I've got an 2.0T 6MT ATS and anytime the conversation goes to handling/street driving I describe the experience as a Miata with 4 doors. I'm still stock but so far 2.0T has survived my daily beatings without incident. Now that I am out of warranty the current plan is exhaust/tune and retro fit the 1LE package. I caught a good deal on the short throw shifter so once weather breaks I'll start there. |
