DR? MT ET Street SS 285/40/18. Will it hook?
So I need new DRs in an 18”. I currently run Nitto 555R in a 305/35/18. I’ll be switching to MT ET Street SS in either the
285/40/18 26.9” @29lbs Or 305/35/18 26.6” @33 lbs I like the 4lb weight saving of the 285. My question for you guys is will the 285 hold me? Procharger on meth. Stock converter. Thanks.

Good question... I've only had MT 305 DRs. Seems adding 8 lbs for a better 60' with 305's is the logical choice since track prep is not always great but maybe someone will chime in on 285's.

Unless you’re driving in rain i strongly suggest the street r over the SS
Lighter, more grip, more flex when aired down, and doesn’t feel bad at all when aired up on the highway. |

It might be a little shaky with 285 dr's and knockin' on 10's door. The dr compound isn't as soft as slicks. Then there is track prep...

I found these too: Hoosier Radial Drag Slick 28 x 10.50R18 22lbs I didn't think I'd need a slick since I only launch from an idle or so.

I asked them whats up with the track prep. They said we don't prep for Wednesday fun night. You won't be setting any PB here tonight. They said come back on Saturday..full prep then. Grrrrrr.

Yep most all dragways only prep for weekend test and tune and leave the typical Wednesday/Friday street nights without prep.

As far as the S/S tires in a modest width, I have used the 275/40-17 ET Street S/S with a mild centrifugal supercharger setup (base pulley and no methanol injection kit). But it was hot out (82º and 91º the 2 times that I used that setup) so the pavement was hot, and these were weekend events during the day. Was able to get 1.6 short times and ran some 10.9s with trap speeds in the 123-125 area. I'm not saying that they are necessarily a great choice for a blower car, but I did 'get away with it' in a modest hp/hot track situation.
As far as drag slicks, I would avoid using them if you can, because they move your car to the drag race car rules, and you no longer would be covered by the 10.000sec new car rules. Drag race car rules would call for a roll bar under 11.50 ET and the slicks would also require a driveshaft loop. I've had a tech inspector tell me that you need DOT-stamped radial tires to stay within the 10.000sec new-car rules. |

I think the Hoosiers have a DOT stamp. My set of Hoosier DR2s do and i think the size you listed is called a DOT drag radial.
