Weak brakes

Has anyone else been a little surprised by the braking capability of this car? The brakes on my c7 are fantastic, so I guess thats what I'm comparing them to. I havent tried a bleed yet, but just curious if others think they are a bit weak too.

I think even the 4 piston brakes are fantastic.

Any context for the complaint? As in, turn 1 at the Daytona road course is a problem, or pulling into a shopping center? Feel, stopping distance, ability to engage ABS?

Which brakes do you have on your C7? There are at least 4 brake setups on the C7.

A common complaint with the Camaro SS is that the initial brake bite is not real strong. Is that what you mean by "weak" also?

But really, the brakes are good. They stop the car just fine, and its been shown again and again in testing and reviews that they stop the car well.

As guy above said...clarification would be helpful.

I have noticed that as they brake in, initial bite gets better. I felt as you do that they were not enough for the car but over a couple thousand miles they improved a great deal.

They need a better pad overall, but surprisingly, the piston size is smaller than the gen5 and SS Sedan.

They just are not weak. There may be something that needs attention on yours. Unless you are tracking the car, the OEM brakes are outstanding. Even on the track you can accomplish amazing things.

The rotor size is also smaller. 13.6.

The 5th gen rotor is a 14 in front and 14.4 in the rear.

The pistons are prob smaller, to go along with the rotors and also the lighter weight of the car.

Change your pads to something better. You will see a huge improvement. SS lines did not change the feel for me. Also beding the pads will help.

What pads are you guys running? It definitely doesn't have the initial bite of the 6 pistons on my 15 Mustang, but they still feel competent. I would imagine a fluid and pad upgrade would help. Like others said, depends on where you are assessing your brakes.

I too, lament the weak initial bite, but had my first ABS emergency today as someone pulled out in front of me on a fast 4 lane road. ABS was very confident, and came to a complete stop, inches from her car. Would have been a t-bone, as she also stopped, partway across my path.

I installed the Hawk HPS 5.0 pads with Phastek SS lines and my final can of Ate Super Blue...big difference. I did a write up so just do a search.

I am actually pretty surprised by how much better these HPS 5.0 pads are versus the "regular" / "old" HPS material. They definitely made a far superior pad and should've full-on re-branded them.
