Zl1
Well GM designed the ZL1 1LE to primarily be a track car with little regard for driving comfort or in some cases safety issues encountered with every day driving such as wet payment or even slightly bumpy roads.
The 3R tires are absolutely DEADLY in the wet. They can hydroplane without warning on a wet road and even while encountering casual water. This can happen at speeds as slow as 50-55MPH while traveling in a straight line. We purchased a ZL1 1LE from a FL dealer and drove it back to TEXAS and unfortunately encountered some unexpected rain and the car was very unpleasant to drive under those conditions. In the four months I had it I had TWO sets of 3R tires which lasted about 1500 miles each. The LAST set I bought were the NON R version of the goodyears and they were MUCH better in the wet and had a slightly better ride quality. The suspension was ENTIRELY too stiff for a daily driver. You could easily slam you hear against the roof of the car should you encounter even a smaller bump. It DID handle GREAT on perfectly flat payment and perfectly dry conditions. Unfortunately most city streets are NOT perfectly flat and water can occasionally pop up. If I were wanting an almost perfectly balanced track and daily driver, then the ZR1 Corvette would be my choice. It handles better than a ZL1 and the ride is much more forgiving. My 2019 SS with handling mods is a MUCH better daily driver than the ZL1 1LE and on the on the track with handling mods it is very quick.

Are you considering a new one in auto form? I wouldn't do it if I were you. While it was a difficult aspect for me to give up the auto in respect to TT laptimes, I just didn't get as much enjoyment out of it as a manual. That's another reason I went C6Z.

Your comment above is a perfect example of the saying "You cant fix Stupid". If you REALLY believe the ZL1 1LE is a great daily driver then you simply havent had enough experience with different types of cars. The REGULAR Zl1 with MRC is a much better daily driver than a Zl1 1LE.

I'm on the fence between the A10 and the M6. I know what your saying about the manual, it is so much more engaging. My opinion on the daily driver/ride quality, is that it is very subjective. My Gen5 1LE has the Z/28 DSSVs with lowering springs, which is only a tiny bit softer than the OE Z/28 springs. I test drove an A10 ZLE with my wife and she felt that the ZLE was a better ride than my '14 1LE. lol.

The rear dampers for the A10 ZLE are valved differently, quite a bit softer than the 6MT. It was basically their chance to "fix" the ride quality complaints. It also makes the car more stable in slaloms, for the autocrossers out there, if you care about that kind of thing.

Absolutely. As a daily I miss the MM6, but I do enjoy the A10 in traffic. Either will be great

While yes one's ability to cope with the way a car rides is subjective. It is a fact that a regular ZL1 offers a much better road ride.

Off topic, I DD my ZLE and love it. I bought it primarily to track it. I had an M4 for daily use. I sold the M4 6 months after I bought the ZLE because I nearly always wanted to drive the ZLE and the M4 was just sitting in the garage.
Back on topic.... I find leaving the trans in auto mode is much better than manual mode on track. The ratios are too closely spaced. Don’t get me wrong, neither approach is bad, but I find auto is better. The shifts in manual mode are just as fast. This is one of the best trans I’ve had. The only downside is manually shifting at low throttle openings and low revs is inconsistent and often slow. I want the same shift all the time. |

Oh and the A8 behaves the same way on the street manually shifting at lower throttle openings.

The only issue I’ve found with the A10 is that it tends to hold very high rpms at times while on track. For me that’s usually on the cool down lap, I have to remember to click it back into sport mode or touring.

My a10 has been awesome on track. I only use the paddles/manual mode on track but this thing doesn't hunt for gears in drive and in track mode in drive its never sloppy or searching for a gear, always spot on.

I live in South Florida and I gotta add even during track days this trans never gets hot, it never gets hotter than street driving, its been great. 10/10 would recommend.
I dont notice the shifts are slower at all in manual as people say.. but my times on the drag strip are always 0.05-0.10 faster in drive |
