Sooty exhaust outlets

I haven’t looked at my exhaust pipes in a while. Someone pointed out how black they are. Like really sooty. Normal on these cars? Mine is stock except for a RF CAI. Does it pay to have the car tuned to get a betterAFR?

Very normal. They are rich running, especially in stock form. I stopped cleaning mine a long time ago. Now they just look like they are supposed to be black.

As other have said, very normal to have sooty exhaust pipes. The stock tune dumps a lot fuel at wide open throttle to help cool the catalytic converters.

My car has the NPP (4 outlet) exhaust, since I have the fuse pulled it only uses the outside pipes and was very obvious where one tip was black and the one next to it sparkling silver so I gave mine a really good cleaning then painted inside the tips with satin black paint

Normal. The parking space bumper where I back up to park at my apartment is right under where the water drain holes are for the NPP exhaust. It looks like someone spray painted the bumper in two spots with black spray paint.

Thanks for the responses. God knows what the combustion chambers are gonna look like down the road.

Any advantage to tuning a stock motor with CAI?

Not worth the money or loss or your warranty.

The stock NPP is really notorious on the suitcase for all the moisture that releases it's really unsightly. I changed out to an axle back and just get sooty tips. A foam attachment on the drill and a little cleaner takes it right off, btw.

I did the same thing 5 years ago and have not touched the inside of the exhaust tips since. This has worked out great for me. Check post #1 and post #14 if you want to see some before and after photos.
