If you don't want to take a massive depreciation hit, don't buy a new car and don't trade it in after a year for the hotter version you knew was coming.

You should be frustrated only with one's self for not waiting to see GM's full hand from the deck.

But you'll never know that. Unless you work at G< and know the Product Portfolio you won't ever know what's up for next year.

2018 SS? Will it stand pat? Doubt it. (10 speed auto, HP bump???) Mustang will likely be the car to beat if GM does nothing with the SS.

If you stand still you're falling behind. That's how this industry works.

And besides anyone that didn't expect something better coming (many expected a Z/28) was missing a lot of photos and spy shots.

I wanted a A10 convert. In addition I really dislike the flat black hood and I was going to change the wheels out anyway. So I'm going to change some of the parts out, splitter, canards and CF wing, paint the calipers red and hopefully end up with a truly unique looking fast Camaro.

^^^The only thing about this car that is a surprise is its name. We've seen the camo photos for quite a while so why the suprise that it's now here?

The only people that might be disappointed are those that were waiting, hoping, for a naturally asperated Z/28. Regretting ZL1 order now appears to be vanity.

I guess I could still back out and wait some more, or what I plan to do is let others wait this time and after they've been out a bit if I still want one and haven't done upgrades already to mine play the market for a good deal.

All that being said if I already had a manual like every 2017 ZL1 on the streets now I'd probably be a bit upset, but then they did come out in Oct so it's been over 6 months since these cars were ordered prior to this announcement. I do think a summer announce (Like at CamaroFest LOL) would have been better timing with Fall production, but Daytona is a really big spot for GM and the publicity is off the hook so hard to blame them there.

Anyway good thread and great discussion.
+1

The primary problem is the timing of the announcement. Most people haven't received their formally top-of-the-line ZL1s yet and GM steals everybody's thunder by announcing a model that's 3 seconds faster around the proving grounds... That's a lot!

Shoot, I don't know of a single person who has taken delivery on the A10. That was supposed to be the top dog... it won't even be top dog on day 1. That's the issue here. I'm saying to GM please be more considerate of your current customers. Either announce the cars at the same time or wait a little while between announcements. Don't take everybody's money and before you give them the car announce a better model.
I'm with you. The timing of this announcement really stinks, especially with number of customers still waiting to take delivery of their cars.

Production of this car is for the 18 model year so why the big hurry to announce it now? I don't think I would be nearly as annoyed had it been announced between the end of the current model year and the start of production for the next MY.

Chevy needs to take a page out of the Apple playbook. Can you imagine how pissed off customers would be if Apple announced the specs for the next model iPhone smack dab in the middle of the product cycle. That's exactly what Chevy has done here. It certainly would have lessened the blow to the existing customers base had they waited to the end of the production cycle to make this announcement.

Team Chevy knocked this one out the park! No one saw this coming either. Not even their largest dealerships. I can honestly say this would be one I would strongly consider as an upgrade to my modded 5th Gen ZL1

Looks are killer. Stance is right with the factory coil overs. I'd like to know where they dropped the weight. This is still very much a street car with ability to be upgraded like the base ZL1. I see a cheaper version of the Viper ACR in this car

I'd be pissed if I bought a "base" ZL1 Manual already.

GM really should've thought this thru more and waited a year to announce this from a business standpoint. Doesn't make sense...Do it next year so customers who have gotten their ZL1s can at least enjoy their car for a year or so and then maybe they trade up to get ZL1 1LE.....But the way they went about it, you are pissing off some of the paying customers who could take their business else where further hurting Camaro sales....
NOT a good thing indeed..........

Not all of us. Like I said earlier, I wanted a sunroof, don't need improvement for racing (non drag racing) I don't do, and am not really a fan of some of the (functional) cosmetic changes. I wouldn't have paid the extra $6k plus for options I didn't want. I'll pick up the wheels but that's about it.

Yep, I'm a tad bit annoyed to say the least. Very poor timing for this announcement in my opinion.

I didn't realize the release of this car would upset so many current owners. There's always a method to GM's madness. I think they accelerated the timeline/release date of this car because GM wants all of the attention focused on the upcoming mid engine Vette and new ZR1 (or top end hi per model) which are expected to debut next year.

I can understand the OP's frustration, but the good news is the parts can be retrofitted if all your after is increased performance.
