Are you comparing the manuals? We still don't know what the mileage ratings for the A10 are, do we? I'm guessing the auto may get 1 mpg better on the highway, but have a couple less in city and 1 or 2 less average.

I'm surprised it's not any better than the 5th gen ZL1 considering it's significantly lighter and has the A10 with more gears. I do give GM credit for sticking with aggressive performance gearing instead of changing it just to avoid the GG regardless of performance (like Ford did on the 13-14 GT500).

![]() Actually, it'll probably be way worse for the first month. Break in won't be fuel friendly .

Performance is what the ZL1 is all about. I would have preferred better millage even the HellCat I have gets 24 on the HWY. The Hellcat will be gone for the ZL1, but given the millage the 2SS I will probably keep. Getting 28mpg hwy. Now if I want to race someone I will drive home and get the ZL1 1st. Don't get your panties in a wad I don't really race on the HWY.

I'm surprised given the A10 that these numbers are this low. Having said that if you can afford a car like this you can afford the gas. I'm not complaining ...

You would think the weight savings would cancel out the added hp. Leaving us with the transmission. Maybe this trans is incredibly tunable and this is the max performance tune, which sacrifices mpg.

Other things cross my mind as well: I'm wondering if it starts rolling in 1st or 2nd. Modern autos tend to start from a stop in 2nd for mpg, unless told to go into 1st manually. We know it doesn't have AFM...and of course, more gears used for performance, mean the engine is using more fuel, not less. Yet, fuel economy has gone up, across the board... 2015 ZL1 A6.........12/18 2015 ZL1 M6.........14/19 2015 Z/28.............13/19 2017 ZL1 A10........12/20 2017 ZL1 M6.........14/20 Frankly...I'm still kind of impressed...12/20....quite a spread.

![]() I'm happy it's tuned for performance. That's the main reason I'm getting the car anyway. Besides, it still gets better fuel mileage than our current vehicles.

I do not buy performance cars based on MPG ratings because they are not my DD. I do agree the GG tax is absurd but hey, it is what it is. Pay to play or buy the manual if you want a little better MPG in your new ZL1; plain and simple.
So, because I buy a performance car for its performance value, what matters most to me is how the sum of the parts give me the performance that I am looking for. The A10 is quicker so that's the attraction for me and it is a stellar performer. While I do wonder what the impact would have been with the A8, obviously the engineers and performance data said the A10 was the ticket for the ZL1 as a total performance package. Thus, we have the A10. Mileage or GG Tax be damned. If I was worried about that, I sure as hell would not be looking at a ZL1 with the A10. And if the mileage DOES worry you, then buy something else or move on because this clearly is not the car for you. Nothing wrong with that. Now back to your regularly scheduled internet debate.

Considering that my '13 ZL1 is rated at 18 hwy, but has gotten almost 23 on long highway trips, maybe the rated mileage won't be all that bad in the real world

Whoever thought someone would bitch about 20 mpg?
As I've stated before, if you buy more gas you pay more tax already. |
