" no remote detected"... Ok; I gave a guy a ride around the block and then let my wife drive "her" car home... OOOOPPPPPS... Remote was in my pocket. As several posts said; she was able to drive it home and when she turned it off it chimed a couple of times and "said" " no remote detected".
I understand why the car should NOT cut off when out of range BUT my wife started the car again with no remote. That doesn't make sense.
Most of the replies here have mentioned other cars: not relevant: I'm waiting for Glen or somebody to give a more complete answer to this "oops" situation.

It's because the car didn't shut down all the way when your wife didn't have the key. This happened to me about a week ago. Car was already running and I forgot I took my key off(usually clipped to a belt loop and stuffed into pocket), hopped in and moved it into the paint booth, best lighting and I wanted to wet sand a couple spots, dirt in the clear, in the factory paint. When I tried shutting it off, it took a couple button pushes, but engine did shut down. As I was getting stuff ready I noticed the exterior lights hadn't gone off after a couple minutes, usually go off in 30 seconds. I got back in to make sure the knob hadn't gotten turned to the on position instead of auto. It was still on auto. Pushed the button, got the "No remote detected" message, pushed again and it fired up. Tried shutting it down again, again engine shut down but car stayed in acc mode. No matter how many times I repeated starting and shutting down, the car would not shut all the way down until I went and grabbed my key and started and shut down with the key in the car.

I can't tell you why it does this, just that it does. No matter what I tried, car would stay in acc mode unless shut off with key with in range. I'm pretty stubborn and tried every combination of shutting down without the key, door open, door closed, long button push, short, repeated pushing, etc. I messed with it until I had to walk away, it made no sense, and things that make no sense really frustrate me.

Well think of it this way, he ran in changed forgot the fob, got in the car then left the driveway and car shuts off in the middle of the street in traffic. So really glad it did let you get where you was going safely.

At best, that's really only a little more than a CYA for Chevy/GM.

I have a feeling that all these warning tones and messages may ultimately have an unintended effect. That we'll simply stop paying enough attention to any of them . . . like what apparently happened here.

Well this is just strange.

I'd like to see the thought behind this.

I can see why the car should absolutely not be shut off if the car is already in drive/moving and the fob is undetected. (safety)

BUT, if the car is running and in park, and then the fob goes undetected during that time, the car (in my opinion) should warn the driver with a chime after the door has been opened and then closed so the occupant has a very good change to see the warning.

Next, it should not allow the car to be moved out of park until the FOB is detected again. Maybe this last part wouldn't work so well for manual transmission cars.

Is there fault with that logic?

The fault is in making it this complex in the first place, and then having to band-aid the obvious shortcoming.

What would have been wrong with requiring the fob to be plugged in, in order for ignition, fueling, starting, and whatever other functions to be enabled? Make it small enough and light enough and you might not even have to turn it to lock it into its socket, say, smaller than a thumb-drive but a little bigger than a plug-in receiver for a wireless mouse. Pull the fob to shut down.

You could still have the push-to-start. Maybe right next to the fob socket.

Wife's Nissan will shut off when you try to put it into drive!..then you have no choice but to get the fob..theoretically you had to have it to start the car in the first place. The situation with the gen6 is complicated by the remote link app being able to start it w/o the key. With no fail safe like the Nissan in place it is a vulnerability

Wow! ok just did a quick test, I can drive around the block with no FOB in the car, a friend just purchased a 2017 mustang ecoboost premium and with the car running another friend jumped in while we where checking out his new ride and he could not get the car out of park. The owner said that the dealer had told him that the FOB has to be in the car before you can drive it. The owner was standing directly in front of his car with the FOB in his hand and the car was locked in park position. I was sure my car had the same feature but it does not.

I sure hope I don't forget my FOB and go on a long trip. usually when I am on my way to Vegas for example on my previous car with a physical key, I leave the car running with the AC or heater on for the comfort of my passenger then remember I forgot something in the house I quickly go get it come back and drive away.

Now lets say I remote start my new Camaro let my passenger begin to load the luggage etc. then I am also getting my stuff ready and loaded and have so many things going on in my head, like I always do before going on a mini vacation for a few days and forget that I left my FOB on the counter and drive away.

never understood the whole keyless fob thing. Is it that difficult to carry a key? I think the flip key is the best idea it's small and must be in the ignition to work without it your not going anywhere. Its only a matter of time before thiefs have something that acts as a fob and they can get into and start the car.

I never locked the car so I was able to get in the car and put the top back up but couldn't turn the car on. I'm stuck 5 miles from my house. Luckily I have a great neighbor who was home went into my house got the FOB and brought it to me. Otherwise we would have had a long walk ahead of us.
This is exactly why I don't eat pizza!!
