Don't the LT4 motors in the Z06 have a slightly different belt drive and blower snout? i.e. I don't think our blower and the Z06 blower are interchangeable? I also thought the Z06 has a dry sump oiling system.
If either of those statements are true, then these motors weren't simply leftover from Bowling Green, rather, were purposely built for the ZL1. Also, it seems like all of you guys posting that you have the handbuilt tag also have orange crush cars...is that accurate? Seems very coincidental / odd. |

Z06 is a dry sump. I vaguely remember reading some place that dry sump not used in Camaros because of fitment issues?

I heard the ones with the plaque are rebuilds with blown oil pumps. ��. Just kidding mine doesn’t have one.

though its true about the dry sump Z06 engines... as for the recent superchargers being different, i can not confirm this without some proof. But like someone else said...maybe these "plaqued hand built engines" in ZL1's are in fact purposely built for Camaro ZL1's ... maybe its to keep the specialized engine building technicians at the bowling green Performance Build Center busy... , to keep them working. That could make sense..., seeing as the new 8th gen corvette does not have a special high-performance engine & model out yet... but it will surely come soon. This way they don't have to shut-down the PBC in-house at the Bowling Green assembly plant. What do you guys think of this theory? Yeah, the Corvette LT4's are all dry sump oiling systems. That engine has a longer crankshaft snout to accommodate the 2 stage oil pump...these engines were never destined for a Corvette (maybe the block or components were but for sure not the crankshaft). The post above about "level loading" the work to keep the PBC employees working is more than likely what happened. To be honest, hand built or not, they are built using the same parts to the same specs.

Wow, am I glad I found this forum. I have been very intrigued with the fact that my 2020 ZL1 1LE has this plaque. I have an open case with Chevrolet trying to get answers for why mine has the Z06 PBC/BG. Good to know it’s not the only one(sort of). I ordered mine at the end of October, and took possession at the end of January. Vin# 16618

I added your VIN# L01 23387 to my list. I saw the link you posted...thats a beautiful ZL1 you got there buddy. Plus, you have a rare color car with a Hand-Built LT4 "plaqued motor". Out of all the cars i have been able to locate only 6% have your combo... most rare. But the year is still not over... more cars will eventually be produced. And there may still be a good number of cars out there in which i wasn't able to positively identify having a "plaqued-engine" because of lack of pictures. By the way Ck4shorts... let me know what you find out from GM about why these Hand-Built engines from the PBC in KY are finding they're way in Camaro's
