Thanks. I think I'll just wait until I'm closer to the end of the warranty. This whole being in Florida nonsense and giving an out-of-state address really doesn't sit right with me. Maybe things will change in a year.

If the extended warranty doesn't start until the factory warranty ends then it makes ZERO sense (to me) to purchase 5 years of coverage until the last month of the factory warranty.

On the other hand, if anyone can show me in writing the extended warranty will not start until the factory warranty expires then I am all in for buying the coverage early and saving some money.

So if you buy a five year extended when you purchase the car new you're really only buying two more years. So if you really want to be covered for eight years you have to buy a five year extended in the last month or so of the original warranty. I guess, like you're asking, it all comes down to pricing for optimal coverage.
Extended warranties are nothing more than insurance policies. Insurance is based on risk, and the older the car is / more miles it has been driven, the higher the risk of an issue.

Out the door, you have 3/36 bumper to bumper. If you buy a 5/60 when you sign the papers, then you're basically being given "credit" toward 3/36 since the extended warranty is backed by GM just like the base warranty (except, apparently, in FL). In effect, you're paying for 2/24.

The longer you wait, the further out in terms of time and mileage that extended warranty has to cover which means that A) the risk is continuing to rise for a longer period (when the warranty will end) and B) the amount of "credit" you get from dropping the base warranty is going down.

I've never purchased an extended warranty on a car. Ever. The simple reality is that I seldom keep them long enough to where I would ever be able to leverage them. I'm going to drive the Camaro for a while to decide whether or not it's likely to be a long-term car for me or not (it's not a DD). And, if so, I will consider extending the coverage maybe in about a year.

It starts when you buy it.

Yes, any GM. It’s a GM product warranty. If you look at covered components it’s very extensive and with the oil pump issue on the ZL1, it seems necessary. My contract clearly states 0 deductible and covered components are listed and extensive, including electronic components. It’s also listed on warranty data when your service advisor at a Chevy dealer looks up your car. It was way less than $2000 but it’s based on mileage and deductible. When I called Knapp we discussed it.

If I manage to keep this car until the 3/36K warranty expires most likely will buy the extended warranty. Very informative thread.

[QUOTE=flyinlow;10278588]Just purchased my third GM extended warranty from Dennis Fichtner at Denny Menholt Chevrolet in Montana. Dennis sells these basically at cost and can sell them for any GM vehicle. These are factory GM extended warranties, not an aftermarket company. No hassle when you take your car into the Chevy dealer.

I bought the Platinum plan, 0 deductible, 72 month/48000 mile plan for $1100 (normally $1400). The time and mileage start from today, not from when you purchased the car. They have many variations of time and mileage, you can pick which one meets your needs.

I have no affiliation with Dennis other than I have purchased three warranties from him over the years. On our Avalanche this saved us about $4000 after the cost of the warranty. Just passing along a good deal.

I have a 2018 with 3600 miles and just purchased a 4 year 48K mile platinum package for 578.00. Technically I still have 1 year remaining of bumper to bumper so its really like adding another 3 years of bumper to bumper. Peyton just took over the warranty end is doing real zero cost warranties. My local dealer wanted 2K for the exact one. I thought the price was insane. It literally took 10 minutes of emails and I have my contract already sent over. I think its really a no brainer for just a little over 500.

I suck at math but here it goes, LOL.
These warranties start at day1 of the sale, you already had 3/36 B to B.
you went to 4yr 48miles, sooooo, you added one year and 12k miles for the $500

That’s not correct. My bumper to bumper is now till 2024 so I added 3 years. I was also confused until she sent me the contract. Clearly stated till 2024. So I had to buy 4 years to net 3 extra years because I had a full year still remaining. Doesn’t start 30 days from the start of payment which was today. So I added 3 years of Platinum bumper to bumper for 578.

I just got a quote of $1100 for 6yr/75k (additional miles) and my OEM warranty expires in 6 months. Insane if you ask me.

I think that’s an amazing price. This is the first time I ever bought a warranty. So many things that can go wrong with these car’s.

I'll email her tomorrow. I'll jump on that deal if I can get it. Seems too good to be true. I have a 18 too

Prices seem a little to good to be true. Make sure you verify the deductible before buying and what coverages you are actually buying.
Good luck.
