"Performance Shift Activated" if I recall correctly, I love it!
The first time it came up I was making a close pass on a two lane road, very fast and agile. That is when you appreciate this cars vs other ones that even if faster on road courses with pro drivers (M4, R8 V8, etc) will not match the real life performance of the SS. |

Couple thoughts:
1) The auto is almost always going to be faster than the manuals. Just the way that technology has progressed. This might not be true on a road course, but even then, probably not much difference. 2) Even knowing this, I opted for the manual. Why? I test drove 2 identical SSs one day. After driving the auto first, I got out and thought, "This sure is a nice car. But, if I'm going to drop $50k on a car, I feel like I should be saying, 'I gotta have this car NOW.'" Then I drove the manual. When I got out, I felt like I did after my first autox. Basically, "Tehehe, that was so much FUN! Can I take this one home with me and make sweet love to it?!!" It's just the connectedness-feeling when you have a manual. 3) For that "hard shifting" mode - I'm assuming that it's the same algorithm (or similar) that is used in my G8 GT. Descriptions sound the same - "Put it in sport, and it shifts a little quicker. But, to get it to hold gears and rev match, you have to romp on it a bit. You can't control it. For the last part, there is no way to get around that. I worked with several tuners to tune the transmission. Texas Speed and Performance got me very close. But, although there are different tunes available to make the various modes (Tour, Sport, Track) different, you cannot command that "hard shifting" mode to activate with just putting it in Sport or Track. After getting close with TSP, I bought HP Tuners and messed with it. I got it to where regular Sport mode would hold gears a little longer than normal, and would shift with the same aggressiveness as in "hard shifting" mode. But, I could never get it to hold lower gears or do the other things. |

Did some searching for info from when I was tuning my G8. Like I said, I'll bet that whatever algorithm they used back then to identify "competitive" driving, is still similar to what they use today.
Not that many people here are going to go quite as into detail as I did, but here it is. http://www.g8board.com/forums/24-pcm...-problems.html |

I got used to it in a week...and came to realize...if I look up and don't know whether those lights mean "all off", or "competition mode" at that moment, then I owe it to myself and other drivers to press the button three more times to make damn sure.
