The Corvette is only two model years in further than the camaro and you're saying they are already giving up on it? What value does a C7 have if it's being beat by a pony car in every facet measureable, including price? What would be the point of even offering the C7 at that point?

Explained here

The summarized version:

C7 (non Z51):
Drag Coefficient: 0.30
Lift Coefficient: 0.20
Front Area: 2.02 square meters

C7 Z51:
Drag Coefficient: 0.35
Lift Coefficient: 0.03
Front Area: 2.02 square meters

Z06 (Stage 1 Aero):
Drag Coefficient: 0.35
Lift Coefficient: 0.03
Front Area: 2.10 square meters

Z06 (Stage 2 Aero):
Drag Coefficient: 0.40
Lift Coefficient: -0.152 (makes down force)
Front Area: 2.10 square meters

Z06 (Stage 3 Aero):
Drag Coefficient: 0.50
Lift Coefficient: -0.279 (makes down force)
Front Area: 2.10 square meters

Basically a Z51 & Z06 Stage I make nearly neutral lift (or no lift)
Thanks a mill for that! Now if only we can get AO and his team to release the data on the SS as well as the ZL1 and upcoming "Z/28".

Why is that data important to a regular non-engineer driver of a new Camaro?

If I can run a 0-60 in 3.9 in a manual 2SS it would be a joke if the ZL1 couldn't take the base vette.

I truly love data and knowledge plus there are those on this forum as well does too. Why forums exists. Not just for "what color I should get". And by no means am I an engineer, just by heart, not tradecraft.

What GM really needs to do is figure out how to get rid of the almost 200 lbs it has gained since going to c7. That alone will drop quarter mile .2 secs.

The 16 Camaro A8 is almost as fast as the base vet. Zl1 will probably run with the C7Z since it will have the A10.

Yea, right. Now close your eyes and repeat out loud what was on the post, exactly.

Not sure I understand this thread regarding the ZL1 and base C7. The ZL1 will easily beat the base C7. The 2016 Camaro SS is capable of that or at least run neck and neck. The Corvette is Chevrolet's "Halo" car. It will be improved and re-engineered in a very short time to again be the halo car at Chevrolet. With the ZL1 and Z06 both at 640 HP and 650 HP respectfully it should be amazing.

I'm curious to know how much downforce it will have, and if it will slow it down at higher speeds....

I can confirm this. Never had a stock C7 pull me from a roll (Gen 5 ZL1). From a dig it was harder due to traction issues but normally I could pull them once I got rolling but it was a slow pull. Race was won in the first 60 feet.

Also the vette has a long time left as a C7. They are expecting to "show" the C8 in 2018. That is 2 years away and I would expect 1 more year before you can buy one.

Also the whole 10 speed verse 8 speed. In a drag race extra gears are not a benefit with a huge HP and massive flat torque curve engine. So a 10 speed could be a negative. (but rock on a road course) Even shifting fast there is a delay between gears. When you are measuring performance in tenths of a second it can add up if you have to shift more. (Many drag cars are 2 speed and top fuel is direct drive with no trans at all.) That will be very interesting to see how it does. My guess is the Corvette will not see the A10 trans for awhile. The Corvette has a "transaxle" (bolts to rear end) were the A10 is currently a transmission (bolts to engine). My guess is it will come but might even be delayed to the C8 release.
