I don't know, as long as the stretch is completely empty, and the road is in good shape, a little sprint isn't too bad of a sin. Considering these cars are designed to handle speeds well above 140, and most (not all) but most of us who drive them have more aptitude than the average driver.

In other words, if dying in a firery car crash is the way you want to go, more power to ya, just don't involve anyone else in your personal blaze of glory.
Mercedes and BMW were the first car companies to really engineer family sedans with high speed in mind. All aspects of high speed driving. Handling, maneuvering, braking, turning, acceleration, and maintaining high speed for a long distance. Then Mercedes was really the first to engineer family sedans with high speed active and passive safety in mind.

So while our Camaros are engineered for speeds well over 140, so were Mercedes family sedans 40 years ago. They had the wife and kids in mind too.

My point is that a well engineered car driven by a responsible driver is not a recipe for disaster. And you can have many of them on the road at the same time.
