That is where we stray though from the OP request and where I chimed in on the fact that for most of the 80% of the owners who will only daily drive their ZL1's that they wont notice the change in the spoilers.

I am not disputing or doubting the track benefit of the data. I know GM all to well, I know their engineering group spent the time making sure the car is thoroughly sorted out as they are out to prove a point and a very bold one. That GM can make a car (several actually) that can and will hang will anything domestic and up to and including some exotics and make them work to not see the tail lights of the new Camaro's.
Ok.

Well, the reason I asked was because your comments about the aero and stability seemed to lack the silent experiences of that very same aero on a track, mid corner, or down a back straight.

In that environment...well-designed aero makes a huge difference in cornering ability, and high speed stability.

When I put the Z/28 aero kit on my 1LE, I immediately felt more confident and carried a few more mph in corners (same tires). Down the straights, I felt less front end lightness above 100mph...

So when I keep harping about "don't change things"....that's where I'm coming from.

This video has probably been on the ZL1 overview page for a while, but I just viewed it for the first time. While the color isn't solid blue all the way to the lift side, I didn't see the colors I expected to see on the spoiler with the various engineering and downforce comments.

I think it's partly because you're looking just at the top of the wing. If you look at the trunk lid, you'll see downforce pick up as the speed climbs. There is also going to be air pulling down on the bottom of the wing as the air passes under it and falls off the trunk lid. You're going to have more pull from under the wing than anything due to the wing being slightly tilted nose down, creating a vacuum under it as it flows through the air. It's this vacuum under the wing pulling air down onto the trunk lid, which is a flat surface, and the air sucking down on the bottom of the wing, that creates downforce with very little drag. A spoiler creates downforce by packing air onto it's steeply angled face, which adds about as much drag as it does downforce.

That's pretty enlightening. Thank you.

Thumbs up

I thank Mr. Wyndham for sharing us his great technical knowledge. Yes I believe that no one knows best than the engineers that tested the aerodinamics of our cars. I have a 5th. Gen ZL1, and from articles that I read GM went to full detail on the design of our vehicles even testing them at high speed on the Autobahn. I only can share a little of my own experience while at the track or road. My late '02 Porsche 911 Carrera that I consider light weight compared to our muscle cars that are much heavier, you could easily feel the changes done with the aerodinamics while increasing speed, the rear automatic spoiler raised above 60 MPH and it lowered below 45 MPH, on straight line I was able to reach 165 MPH, but the car felt very light on the front you could feel it on the steering wheel, after I added a front lip spoiler, the car felt more secure and stable on front, the steering wheel felt more secure and firm. In reality I could not feel a big difference on the aerodinamics until I was closer to reaching 100 MPH, below that almost you could not feel any difference. At the track on my '11 Mustang GT track package after changing the rear lip style spoiler for a Wing pedestal spoiler, like the one on the CS edition, I was not able to feel any difference at all, because it was a much heavier car like the Camaros, the only big change on performance was after I improved the suspension and better grip tires, those were day and night changes that I really were able to feel immediately, more traction, more stable, higher speed at the course I was able to go head to head with a BMW M3 V8 which was also modified, until my brembos brake fluid boiled after several laps and I had to leave the track.
At the end of the day is your car and you decide what do you want to do with you car and the type of usage, just don't do something stupid which I saw in one of the cars at the track that the owner raised higher the front of his car or lowered to much the back, against all aerodinamics principles.

I was checking the 6th. Gen GM's rear blade spoiler and the one from the 1LE. Yes they look more impressive. I also saw a rear side to side picture of the SS and the ZL1's rear pedestal spoiler and from the back both cars look the same besides the ZL1 or SS emblems, not good that they look similar. Now I see your esthetics point of view concern.
