A base '16 Camaro 1SS is $37,295.00 MSRP, the dealer invoice on that is right at about $35,803.20, now deduct the 3% Chevrolet hold back, which is $1118.85, and you have $34,684.35. If a dealer where to sell you the car for this price they would literally make NO money. Now take that 34,684.35 and add (MD) 6% sales tax $2081.06, now you have $36,765.41. Now add roughly $300 for tags, registration, title, and lien. Then you have $37,065.41. However, no dealer will ever sell the car and make absolutely no money. Most won't dip into the holdback.

However, the more options you add, the more negotiation room the dealership will have because they pay a lower percentage for the additional options than they do for the base car. That is why you mainly see 2SS cars sitting on dealer lots, they can make more money on these cars.

Just do your homework, find out exactly what the dealer invoice price is on the car. Don't pay anymore than dealer invoice. If the dealer balks at this either walk out, hang up if you are on the phone, or mention the 3% manufacturer holdback. Next find out exactly how much your state charges for tags (weight included as these cars are 3600lbs), registration, title, and lien paperwork. Don't let the dealer over charge you for this. That's just about it.

My advice is do not visit the dealer. Do a search for all Chevrolet dealers within X miles of your home. Email each one of them and let them know the exact car you're interest in. Only use Email for the preliminary negotiations (this takes 80% of their face to face tactics away from them). Never mention a trade in if that's what you are doing. Use your email conversations to narrow down the list of dealers to 2 or 3. Visit each of theses dealers and have them print you off the GM WorkOrderBench with invoice price on it (if you don't already know it for sure). DO NOT BUY A CAR!!! However let them believe that you may, take a test drive. If they ask about a trade in, tell them that you are unsure and will have to think about it. LEAVE, DO NOT BUY A CAR, don't let them run your credit either. Next email the finalist (the 2-3), hopefully they are all willing to sell for invoice. Tell them that it has come down to just a few dealers but you are all offering the same price, list the invoice price, dealer processing fee, taxes, and tags fees for the total out the door cost. Now pick another small $100-250 option that you'd also like to have. Then say that to finalize this that you will sign the papers this week with which ever dealer offers you this car for the above out the door price with the included additional option. The first to give you that offer, sign...
One other question: will the dealer typically print off the workorderbench with invoice price on it for you? I think I have this info for model year '16, but looking to get a '17.

They should if you request it. However if they won't, I found that KBB.com actually does have the accurate dealer invoice prices.

Employee price is 96% of dealer invoice, across the board. .

A base 1SS MSRP is $37,295, dealer invoice on the Chevrolet Camaro is almost exactly 96% of MSRP. So dealer invoice on a base 1SS is $35,803.25. Now add the $286.35, in dealer priced options and you have $36,089.55. Give or take $50 and this is exactly what the dealer will pay for the car (this includes destination)
Which % is accurate to figure out the dealers cost on options?

for example I tried to apply both figures to the MSRP of NPP exhaust ($895) and am not coming up with what I had down for invoice which was $814.45. When it comes to math I won't be working for NASA but I can do percentages lol.

EDIT: The key at the bottom of the link I included says dealer invoice INCLUDES holdback. So I'm guessing that's why your figures are lower?

When I was doing the calculations, some options had different % of msrp of the option. It was around 10%, IIRC.

This is correct, the average on option is around 91%. Some options are dealer installed so I believe that the 83% are more than likely those options because the dealer is still going to charge labor on top.
