Oh also so any and every knows. Even if a dealer sells to you at invoice price, they still profit the factory holdback. All Chevrolet factory holdbacks are 3% of MSRP. It's just they don't make the money right away. Chevrolet tallies up all of the vehicles they sold and sends them the holdback money between every 1-3 months.

Just make sure that you know that the dealer invoice will be carrying additional fees like Dealer LMA and IMR... that alone can add upto $500-1000 depending on the state... these fees are not added until the car is built and it is invoiced by GM... so the invoice u get might be totally different from the one you saw...

It's funny, I've heard about these advertising fees, bought many vehicles, yet never been charged for them. I am a numbers person so it's about impossible to get something past me, like salesman often try to do. I also go to final pricing on 3 different Camaro SS (existing cars on the lot), just so that I could see how far I could drive them down. Of the three, two were in Maryland and there was no advertising fees. The price was plain and simple; cost of car, destination charge, and options, then add dealer processing which MD caps as $300, MD taxes, and then MD tags and that was the final price. However the car I looked into in Delaware had this additional fee, I asked the dealer and that's when he mentioned the advertising fee, which like I said I have never been charged for in MD. On top of this, over the summer we bought my wife a brand new SUV, we weren't charged any advertising fees. In this forum I've even heard of other people saying that they've been to dealers who charged them and other who didn't. I guess this is my experience as well. |

I just looked at a 2ss where they started at $3700 off msrp and before I walked out the door he was ready to drop ~500 more. then any special incentives on top of that. I qualified for lease loyalty of $500 and gm card$.
I would drive/fly 800 miles before I ordered a car. you can deal with them over the phone and nail down a price before you book a flight.

What you have to take into account here is that the car was a 2SS, and likely loaded. What Chevrolet says the options cost YOU is not what it costs the dealer. So the more options a car has, the more money the dealer will make if it where to sell at MSRP. This also means that they have a lot more room to negotiate. I only have two options on a base 1SS, that's a $200 set or wheels and $145 black badges, so a total of $345.00 in options. The dealers cost is around 83%, so these options cost them around $286.35. A base 1SS MSRP is $37,295, dealer invoice on the Chevrolet Camaro is almost exactly 96% of MSRP. So dealer invoice on a base 1SS is $35,803.25. Now add the $286.35, in dealer priced options and you have $36,089.55. Give or take $50 and this is exactly what the dealer will pay for the car (this includes destination). However then you have to take into account that all Chevrolet vehicles get a 3% hold back, that's 3% of MSRP that will be paid back to the dealer. The holdback for the car I've optioned is $1129.20. Normally dealers will not dip into this in order to sell you a car, they'll let you walk. However, if you put dealers against each other, they might dip into the holdback slightly. For the price I have, the dealer is dipping into the holdback for the cost of the all weather floor mats. I know more about the numbers of buying a car than around 90% of the rest of the population. I took classes while in the military that outlined all these things, and how to gain the upper hand when buying a car. Trust me, when it comes to the pricing, I know what I'm doing. |

$2000 Out of about 40 1SS's sold within 100 miles of me, only two where sold at or just barely lower ($50-100) than what I'm getting it for. And like I said this is before incentive or rebates. The average '16 Camaro is selling at 1-2% below MSRP. I'm buying this at 5% below MSRP. Based on what I have from the GM WorkOrderBench (only dealers can access this, and most won't show them to you), the absolute lowest a dealer could sell me this car without actually loosing money (including the holdback) would be 92.7% of MSRP. That is without incentive, because those are paid back to the dealer by the manufacturer. |

I sure don't understand you guys that are out looking all over for a car on a lot like you want and then often taking something with not the exact options you want or not buying one at all because you can't find your optioned car. So much easier to just order one exactly like you want and in a couple months you have it. Often will get a better price that way too. I ordered my vette a thousand miles away exactly how I wanted it, saved thousands off of local dealer price, picked it up in 6 weeks at exactly the agree to price. real simple. they can't jack you around just because you came a long way to get it if you don't let them. |

Interesting! My HB on my invoice is 1225.65 on a 1SS, you're very accurate with your calculations. Thanks for sharing this info with us, it gives us a greater understanding for negotiations.

Are these numbers generally pretty accurate for any car manufacture? Or are you just talking Chevy? Really curious.
