This was such a tragic accident I witnessed today. This was the first time Indycar returned to Las Vegas since 2002. I had a feeling something like this might happen when you have 4 wide racers going 220 plus MPH on such a small oval track.

Yes a tough day for IndyCar fans. A lot of emotion at my house yesterday.

So painful to watch and wait for the official announcement that I was sure was to come. Never showing him removed from the car or transported, the demeanor of the team members and drivers, the emotion choked announcers so desperately trying not to say what they couldn't yet say even though you could read between the lines of their comments.

RIP Dan and prayers for Susie, Sebastian and Oliver.

Had a wonderful article on him in Saturdays Star. So much more to live for,,,,

Wheldon ready to drive Patrick's car next year

Truly a sad day, but I take some solace in the fact that he died doing what he loved - way too soon, but at that speed I doubt he knew what happened.

Totally Agree. I had the pleasure of spending time with Dan on 2 occasions at RIR. We set on top of the Hauler one eveing watching the other races at the track after Indy qualifing.

A public memorial service is set for this Sunday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indy at 4pm and members of the family are expected to be there as well race teams in the Indy Racing league and throughout the country.

Dallara also announced the new car Dan had been testing here all last week and prior will now carry his name as the model.
