Santa brought me a GM cold air intake so I'll try to get that on sometime this week.

Not strictly today, but the past couple days I did some preparations for the LT SEMA grille + RS headlights install (at last!).

Since my car is garnet red and the grille isn't offered by GM with inserts in this color, I bought the one with primed only inserts and decided to paint these myself despite having zero experience with either car paint work, or polishing for that matter. (BTW this grille costs the same as those with painted inserts, go figure :/)

Now if only I had known what I got myself into... but, some youtube videos and a "few" purchases later (touch-up paint, clear coat, 3M sandpapers from 1000 to 5000 grit, compound, polish, dual action polisher...) and after a pretty arduous learning path, I now have garnet red tintcoat inserts with a look that's 99% like the factory paint job---perfect color match and same shine, yay

Three coats of base+color, two coats of clear, inevitable orange peel properly wet sanded and compounded away, polished to match the paint on the car. Some very minor paint flaws that I just don't have the energy to fix, because I guess I'd have to sand everything off down to the primer and rebuild.

All that said, I'm honestly not sure I have a future in the automotive paint business. This whole thing may sound trivial to the initiated, but it's a major accomplishment to this noob, and I'm pretty proud I didn't give up after one or two false starts.

Will tackle the actual grille + headlight install after Christmas, hopefully it'll be relatively easy, as I already know how to get the bumper off, it's just the grille replacement that will take some help.
Finished the RS headlights upgrade + SEMA RS grille + custom painted garnet red inserts project today, with no help. The front now looks fantastic, this grille is miles better than the original, the illimunated bowtie adds a nice touch and the headlights are perfect of course Decided not to attach the body-color top grille insert and the RS emblem, the former just looks crowded (the black glossy top grille plate is much better IMO), while the latter would be a lie.

Too bad the roads are literally white with salt here, no way I'll drive the car today. If only I understood why they spray this much, we had about half an inch of snow that thawed on its own...

Okay, with this done, I swear I am not going to remove (and especially replace) that bumper again. Managed to pull this off without scratches or blemishes, but this is a royal PITA as a one-man job. The toughest part was replacing the bottom deflector bolts, there are literally 3 pieces of material to push different ways and hold in place, all the while trying to have the thread catch.

Very true, Sir. Doing these jobs manually puts things in perspective, I now definitely have some newfound respect for those who do a good paint job relatively quickly.

An interesting and slightly unexpected effect on me is the therapeutic nature of messing with the car, but don't want to digress into more philosophical territory

It wasn't today, but on the 26th. I took my 1LE to Man @ Detail Maniac in Sacramento for a detail, polish, and had CQuartz Finest applied. Looks great and the price was awesome. Man does great work.

Can you show a pic of your wheels? They look like they have some lip, which is what I am looking for.
