For me personally it's just not worth it trying to mod an SS to ZL1 power levels and voiding the warranty during the first year of ownership.

It's like buying a 911 Carrera 4S and trying to mod the turbos to make it as fast as a 911 Turbo. It doesn't make much sense to me.

The only reason I see to choose an SS over a ZL1 is if you happen to prefer N/A over forced induction. Or if maybe you just genuinely like tinkering and building stuff. I mean, you could build and tinker with a ZL1 sooooo. Otherwise, both are V8s, so who really GAF about Gas mileage and consumables?

...also, don't bother comparing anything to a stock ZL1. Nobody is leaving their ZL1 stock. Yes that's hyperbole but the vast majority are modding their ZL1s.

It's all about what you want. If you want to make a new SS equivalent or better than a ZL1, you'll spend more than the total cost of the ZL1. Maybe you could get a good deal on one and do the work yourself if you have the knowhow. My advice is to drive both if at all possible. Track or no track, mods or keep warranty (and value).

Left mine stock and I’m now going on week 7 waiting on JUST A CALL BACK about anything.. lol case with GM started over dealership. Needless to say I’m not sure if having a warranty amounts to much on these vehicles when serious parts break in times like these.

Sorry to hear that man. Some dealers are just crap.

What's going on with your car to cause you to submit a claim.

I’ve opened a case because I have gotten absolutely no feedback in 6 weeks. They are actually telling me when I call that ONLY my tech has information and he is unavailable and will call me back. He has not called back in a week. I have received no communication from the dealer about my vehicle in over 5 weeks. I am receiving nothing from anyone. At what point do I acknowledge that if they can do this for the first 6 weeks they probably plan to do it for 6 months. My car is under warranty until 100k 2028. This is absurd handling of a warranty vehicle much less a vehicle like a ZL1 with 15k miles. This situation is embarrassing, and has decided already if I ever purchase another vehicle from GM again. At what point are we going to stop blaming “Covid” and supply chain issues for PEOPLES IRRESPONSIBILITY to do THEIR JOBS. Not having parts available for a vehicle you warranty and sell, MUCH LESS has the same part in several other models, absolutely inexcusable. All of this is ASSUMING that is their excuse for taking this long to even relay a piece of information (which they haven’t in 5 weeks)

Reread your question and I assumed you remembered my other post, that I’ve posted on periodically OVER THE LAST 6 weeks. Talking about my transmission issues. I’m sure it just slipped your mind. Kind of like my trans…

Interior of both cars doesn't really compare to zee Germans. As always a it's a question of priorities, and those do change somewhat as you get older - it used to be ultimate power, now it's more just driving fun and I generally prefer a smaller car I can toss around (18 years with FD RX-7, and S2000 after that)

Streets are increasingly clogged with distracted asshats so using a high power car can be frustrating. Don't be like M assholes weaving in and out of traffic
Agreed. As you gain more experience with different vehicles you begin to realize what brings the most enjoyment. For me, the ZL1 limits were so high that I couldn't really experience what the car is designed to do unless I hit the track. I found it a bit boring to putt around at 30% all the time. If you just like short-shifting around town and listening to the V8 sound track then the ZL1 may keep you satisfied. I kind of knew this before I bought my ZL1. I actually had a 2SS 1LE on order but it was taking forever and I found a new ZL1 in stock at MSRP so I bought it instead. While it was cool to experience the ZL1, looking back the SS 1LE woudl have been the better car for me.

Jason Cammisa has a good segment here describing this reality. He is comparing the CT5V- Blackwing to the CT4V-Blackwing but you could apply the same logic to a ZL1 vs. SS.

Yes, its worth it. The SS 1LE is awesome, you just don't have the supercar factor in power. Breaking traction in third gear is nuts, but so much fun. Aesthetically the front end looks better and big wheels/tires also look great.

A ZL1 is competitive with most any car on the track leaving down to the best driver.

I went from 2SS to ZLE. I am very happy with my choice, but it really is subjective. I don’t plan on tracking my car often but do want to here and there. I will say from my early experience with the ZLE, I was getting more gurgles from the exhaust on the SS, but the whine from the supercharger makes up for it and then some. Like said earlier if you think you’ll want more power in the long run and you can afford it, go for the ZL1.

I had the same thought but coming from a C7 Z51 I wanted a Z06 but couldn't find one at a reasonable price so I ended up buying a new 2022 ZL1. I absolutely love the power from the ZL1 but it's too much to utilize on the street IMHO. The midrange power band couldn't be better but putting it to the boards you're really pushing it on the street. I think the 2SS 1LE would be a perfect combination but once you have the power it's hard to give up.

Exactly, I loved the ZL1 but if you are buying it mainly for the extra power and you are stuck driving on the street it is difficult to put those extra 200 horses to use.

Indeed, and putting down an extra 400 hp is even more difficult... yet, I wouldn't want to go back to stock even on my SS. To me even those few pulls are worth it, plus having a final overdrive gear that's more powerful than half the cars on the road at WOT, along with world class handling make for a quite enjoyable drive.
