I wouldn't be too hopeful about it being quiet lol. I replaced my reverse lights with ridiculously bright LEDs (they are about as bright now as most 2010s OEM headlights) and when I shut the car off I can hear the stupid fans running at full tilt. Sounds like the rear end of my car is trying to spin up and take off into space.

I've briefly looked at some eBay "high power" 7440 bulbs for my reverse lights, they have big heat sinks and maybe a fan, but wasn't sure if they'd physically fit and never looked closer to see.

I went with these for my reverse lights.

Asides from the 3 seconds of turbine noise after shutting off the car, I highly recommend these. Backing into my garage from like 25 feet away they fully light up the back wall of my garage.

I don't know why those "turbines" are a necessity, these bulbs are only on for what, 30 seconds at a time, tops? Mine have no fans and been working just fine since 2018, flooding everything with super bright white light behind the car.

No doubt backing up, more light the better. More so when you have 5% tint and lightly tinted tails, lol. I was hoping the site showed a picture of them.

These are the ones I keep looking at.

I don't understand the need for them, either, but yeah, I know Diode Dynamics sells auxiliary bulbs (turn signals, reverse lights, etc.) with fans. I had a set a long time ago in my Honda Accord Coupé. They are bright, but the special base adapters they use are no good at sealing and I ended up with water in the turn signal housing.

With the Camaro, I just bought their high output drop-in LEDs, which they warn about running for a long time, but as you mentioned, reverse bulbs are only ever on for a short period of time, as long as you have the proper resistors hooked up. Doesn't look like DD sells the particular ones I use anymore, which is a shame.

Interestingly, some guy at Tacoma World did a test between a bunch of reverse light bulbs and he found that some HIR bulbs actually have higher lux reading than LED options. With our 7440 bulb base, we would need a 921 to 7440 adaptor to make it work, and the colour temperature is not as nice looking. Just food for thought.

Wow! That’s a massive improvement over the HIDs…not even close.
