Damn if that first photo couldn't have been me back in the day! I never built the motor in my Chevelle but did many others in my parents' garage/driveway. Dad got transferred to Houston, Texas in '76. I sweated my ass off in that Black, no a/c Chevelle during my senior year of High School but sold it to buy a Grabber green '70 mach 1 (351C) with automatic and air before I went off to college. After that, I owned several more '69 & '70 Mustangs culminating with a Black Jade '69 Boss 429 that I owned until 2006. I'd love to have any of those cars back now, especially the Chevelle.

Here are a few driveway pics from my formative years. Sorry about the Mustang pics in a Camaro Forum, but that's all I can find here at work. I'll try to find some pics of the '66 Chevelle when I get home.

The green car is the Boss 9 I owned until 2005. The red one my skinny ass 18 yr old self is posing with is a real Boss 9 also, but it had a 429CJ motor.

Hey L78....you had some rare stuff!!! Those boss 9's are huge bucks now!! I had a close friend of mine in high school that had a 69 Mach 1 with a 351 cleveland. That was one of my favorite body styles. I got the muscle car bug when I was just a youngster in the 60's!)....dad worked for Pontiac motors and used to bring home GTO's from the plant all the time! Just the sound...I was hooked!! LOL Growing up in metro Detroit, all the kids dads worked for the big 3. We all had pretty cool cars I wish I still had mine! You too I'm sure!

I could fill a barn with cars that I wish I would have kept. I got into muscle cars by hanging out in my cousin's shop from the time I was a toddler on up thru my teens. When dad got transferred to Houston in '76, the gods must have been smiling on me. We moved from the country to a fairly ritzy subdivision/school system. I was an immediate high school hero with my L78 Chevelle! The kids in my new school mostly drove new Trans-Ams or Camaros. My soon to be new best buddy had a '76 Camaro with a 305 and thought it was fast lol! We met when he challenged me to a drag race. Needless to say I completely destroyed him! Turns out he loved cars but didn't know a thing about working on them, the best part was that his dad owned an oil tool company, they made swivels, mud pumps and such. With his dads backing, we started buying, fixing, and flipping cars. We continued all thru my college career, which was in large part the reason it took me 5 years to get my bachelors! We had a lot of neat cars, including several Vettes, best was a '70LT1 convertible, a De Tomaso Pantera, a '71 440-6 Cuda, just about every interesting '69/'70 mustang including a few CJ's, SCJ's & Boss 302's. The only car I kept long term was the '69 Boss 429. We had an Acapulco blue '69 428 CJ auto/air car that I wish I would have kept rather than the Boss. It was just as fast, more comfortable, and not so valuable that I would be afraid to drive it.
If I could pick two, and wasn't worried about which was worth more, I would take the '66 Chevelle and '69 mach1.

The Mustang looks cool too....so don't worry about it.

Sweet! If I'm still energetic enough when I retire in a year or two, I'm planning on doing a LS powered 66 - 67 Chevelle restomod.

No laughter here. The LT1 engine is a small block. GM production vehicles haven't had a big block in them since the very early 00's with the Vortec 8.1L 496c.i. HD truck engine. There's many small block engines making cubic inches remnant of the 60's big block monsters. The LS7, a 427c.i. V8 is a small block, the LSX 454 is 454c.i., but a small block. Cubic inches don't make the big block or small block. Chevy's first big block was a 348c.i. V8 and was available in full size Chevy's and trucks in '58.

I expect it was a typo, but the 348 was a big block
