Out of curiosity, what brand of gas do you use? Random, or do you always use the same?

Thanks
I prefer Chevron, but will also use Mobil, 76 or Shell. Never use Arco or any independents. No real data to back up my preference, but we have a local Chevron refinery in El Segundo, since 1911. That's what El Segundo is named for--it was the 2nd (segundo) Standard Oil Refinery in CA.

So I like to think the fuel is fresher :-)

FYI, ARCO advertises as "Top Tier" fuel.

It's only meant for occasional use with drag runs etc. The only thing you should put in your tank is pure unleaded 91/93 fuel, and 100+ unleaded is ok. But even high octane leaded race gas like 110+ or C16 (assuming you use it planning to remove cats and replace O2 sensors) shouldn't sit for long periods in your tank. You need to use it soon or it can leave a lot of residue in tank/lines from additives or some other properties.

Your engine will be fine on 91 or 93, it's tuned to handle and adjust to any variance in octane, and 91 is pretty reliable--it's 87-89 where the variance happens with octane testing lower than 87-89 more often.
Just Race Gas race fuel concentrate or, all such products such as Torco & Boostane as well?

I'm not an expert, and I think the high quality ones are ok for occasional use, but I wouldn't recommend any of those octane boosters for daily use in every tank.

It seems safer to just find a 100 oct pump, and buy a few of VP 5 gal fuel jugs on Ebay to store up, then mix in ~3-5 gallons of 100, which should get you at or close to 93. I pay $10/gallon for VP 100 in LA. That's an extra $15-25 a tank, with 91 at ~$4.40/gal now in CA.

On empty in Beverly Hills last night and had to pay $5.50/gallon self-serve at a 76! I only bought 3 gallons :-)

Holy F***, $5.50?? Damn, they gouge you more than the Bay Area stations do. But I guess it being Beverly Hills and all, they get away with it.

I am pretty lucky, I have a station near me that offers 94, 96, 97, 98, and 100

To clarify, I'm not disputing that they're classified as top tier--not sure what that means. Nothing will convince me to go to an Arco station. My bias is firmly established and there are too many options.

All Arcos look like a hot mess :-)

Please tell me what station in the Bay Area sells 94, 96, 97, 98? Never even heard of those octanes except maybe race gas from VP or F&L at $11+/gallon in 5 gallon cans.

Thanks

Torco leaves a film. Boostane does not.
Boostane is safe to run in your car 24/7.
I personally have no experience though I'm going to start using it.
From my Googling I've found that there have been lost of consumer testing.

As for leaving gas in your car:
This comes from the ethanol content as it absorbs moisture (water) and ruins the gas.
Torco won't help.
Boostane acts as a stabilizer by neutralizing the effects of ethanol water absorption.
Race Gas often has zero ethanol and has a longer shelf life than regular pump gas.

I've been told by many people that leaving high octane leaded race gas in your car is a bad idea between seasons, etc. They recommend draining the tank or end up with weird residue--I'm not referring to E85, this is high octane petroloeum like C16. Never tested this myself, and maybe these numerous people were all wrong. Lots of misinformation out there.

Definitely lots of misinformation out there.
I also have never left race gas in my tank any longer than it took me to use it up at the track, maybe a couple 20 minute sessions?

I'd be surprised if there was any residue. Gas is pretty clean stuff.
In any case, I was only referring to the shelf life. I've had 105 octane race gas sitting in sealed 5 gallon cans in my shop for over a year and it ran excellent. This could totally vary by brand.

Not in El Paso, TX. 91 only.
