Interesting note buried in a article about the ZL1 at the 'Ring...

"To get a read on what the fifth-gen ZL1 could've done better we asked Al Oppenheiser what was first on his unrequited wish-list for the old car. "The biggest thing was that I wanted to include the electronic limited slip differential," he replied. "We knew what capability it gave the Corvette. It was available but the thing we spent money on was electronic power steering."

He says it's the single thing that makes the most difference between the 5th and 6th Gen car.

Then I think about all the people who own Corvettes, BMWs and Porsches and can't drive them at 100% . They still buy them. I think its like that. I don't need it, but I want it.

You're not alone. I don't race and have little skill at it but I was set on a 1LE. Now that I have a 2SS I still want more even though I have zero actual need for it. It just makes you feel good to know your car has potential. Maybe it's bragging rights, or compensating but hey if it makes you happy then why the hell not?

Same reason I want a supercharger....because racecar.

In my experience, raising the level of performance your car is capable of also tends to raise your level of speed (not skill). You're still likely not driving 10/10ths.
