Sorry, my opinion, but I don't think the 1LE is any longer the "true" GTPP competitor.

For one, the SS has elevated in performance to the point where it can outrun the GTPP on its own. Also, the 1LE MSRP is going to be significantly higher than the MSRP of a GTPP. 1LE will likely be 42-43K. GTPP can had for what...35 or 36? (again...I'm talking MSRP)

But don't for a second think I'm saying the 1LE will be overpriced. Certainly not. It will be knocking on the door of the GT350 on the track for 8 - 10 thousand dollars less.

I just really don't think we can look at 1LE is the direct competitor for GTPP like it was for 5th gen 1LE versus 6th gen GTPP

I really like what this post on the bimmer forum had to say...I have to agree:

Quote:
Yet another comparison between a Vette/Cadillac marriage and a BMW.

It's amazing what economies of scale can do with regards to performance parts. This comparison basically tells us that performance and technology are cheap, a commodity of sorts. We're now left with differences in warranty and fit-n-finish with which to differentiate brands. Consumer win!

Great win for the Camaro. It seems like driver skill will be the difference between these two equally matched vehicles.

I sold BMWs for a brief time and I don't think there will be a lot of people cross-shopping the M4 vs the SS. A BMW "snob" will have a hard time coming over into the Chevy camp. That being said; one of the nicest BMW guys that test drove an M4 with me, cross shopped it against a C7, and went with the vette ultimately.

I hope GM gets the first year kinks out of the production process soon. I swung by to see if I could test drive the SS today and the only one on the lot was not available to be driven. It had RANDOM MISFIRES written on the driver's window. My heart is saying take the leap of faith and go with a 2016 SS, but my brain is saying wait for 2017, second year run.

the performance the 1LE is going to offer for the price is going to be insane.

I like how the german boys say the quality of the Camaro is crap but then admit that maintenance costs post-warranty are greater.

Quote:
Yes, I checked out the Camaro at this year's auto show in Denver. BMW/Audi/Mercedes are still way ahead of Chevy even when you get to the top end of their offerings... and naturally they should be, German cars demand not only a premium at time of purchase but also much higher long term costs than domestic autos.

That's why I leased mine.
That is some sweet, sweet Bavarian koolaid.

The 1LE is going to break the internet.

The fact that the Camaro is competing on even footing with the M4 in both performance and driver engagement is a great achievement.

I think its funny that the Mustang guys *try* to be snobs and compare their GT to the M4 and Motor Trend didn't even bother with it.

And I guess we can add JD Powers and Associates to the Chevy "shill" list:

Well done.

Let's see the RS5. I bet this car surprises a lot of euro cars.

The camaro and gt PP weren't tested on the same day. Nor the previous 1le. Were they even the same drivers? Cmon...

Comparisons to those times are nothing but a guess. Difference could be more or less.

It's good to see a German guy buying a Camaro! You will certainly have a unique ride and a blast on the autobahn. I love the M cars but too much money for my budget. Anyway, I toured the BMW museum in Munich and the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart. Both very memorable experiences.

I believe Chevy forced this. Love the competition!
