Computer controlled break-in period.. hmm..

So current lead suspect meaning, this is most likely the situation because GM needs the car to last 100,000 miles?

If they can manipulate the ECU to "restrain" the engine from operating at its 100% capabilities when you gas-to-floor via a 'break in powertrain period' for a certain period of 'break in miles' I would be impressed (if there are no **** ups in the programming), and even moreso impressed if the transition between the 'break-in ECU programming' to the 'full bat-shit lap time destroying z06 programming' was seamless.

You shouldn't have the bring your z06 to the dealer to get it reflashed 'to go faster' though, right?

hmm

Pretty smart idea IMO to kind of make sure that it's broke in closer to how GM wants it to be.

I agree and it will take until June until we really know. Reading, it isn't clear if it was the auto trans or the oil that was overheating during Pobst 4th lap.

I'm pretty sure the magazine cars were "broken in".

I'd bet a good sum GM would let journos flog a Z06 around the track only to get a detuned car after 20 minutes. I can see that article right now.

What I am surprised by was the article that had an unnamed GM person claiming the fix was in the aftermarket recalibrations. GM, at least the GM I know, wouldn't do that in a million years. Especially when the answer was really, just break in the car properly.

Makes me think this quoted source wasn't official or didn't know what they were talking about or wasn't even an official source.

I'd bet GM never expected anyone to take a virgin car to the track and beat on it right away. Not saying it's not tempting, but I'd sure have taken a short trip somewhere just to make sure it was all sorted out.

Why didn't Chevrolet simply disclose this built-in limitation up-front in the Owner's Manual? Nobody would have cared if it were disclosed.

I'm sure if you read your owners manual on any recent GM performance vehicle, you will plainly see that it states that your car will operate as developed if properly broken in per GM's recommendation.

The question people should be asking is, does the previous generation car (ZR1) act the same way?

It also does not plainly state that you're not given a choice in the matter. It's the fact that GM may have put in a nanny and then concealed the matter.

Why is this such a big deal for you? No one asked for permission to put a rev limiter on it either.

GM is honoring the warranty and will let you play harder than anyone in the industry while in warranty. If it ramps up to full after break in, no harm no foul.

It matters because GM has an image problem to repair and this isn't helping. The amount of bad press that GM has gained from this is fairly impressive, and at least in the near term the Z06 has been stained with a bad rep.

That's a *bad* thing for a car that GM needs to be a top tier performer

Or maybe the car just really is having overheating problems and nobody want to admit that.
