Does anyone know if dealerships are selling GM brand dexos 1 oil by the quart and is it a synthetic oil or a blend?

The GM brand dexos oil is a synthetic blend. I can't vouch for all dealerships, but my local GM dealership does sell it by the quart.

Quite frankly, unless your camaro is the V6, I wouldn't use the GM brand dexos because it is a blend. Get a full synthetic.

My SS is always serviced with Mobil 1 however we just purchased a 2011 Equinox V6 and I am considering my options for motor oil. Mobile 1 across the board is an option.

I ran castrol syntec in my ls1 z28 clear up to 210k and running strong. That being said I was planning to run castrol edge in my ls3 being the great things I've read about it, though it doesn't seem many people on here use it. Anyone have any issues with the new edge?

I am ready for an oil change and want to use a 100% pure synthetic. I was thinking Amsoil ( I used it back in the 70's) but all this discussion has me con cerned. My LS3 is a 2010 so I am still leaning towards Amsoil. My next problem? Best oil filter...

I am a 100% believer in Amsoil. I know what it does for me and in my Cummins. I do the 1yr/25k oil changes. Right now I have almost 27,000 miles on the oil in my truck and will change it when I get around to it. But, because of the OLM and warranty on the Camaro, I would not do the 1yr/15k. The OLM will have you changing it before the 15k anyhow. You could just reset the OLM and keep going, but if you can't provide the receipt for the oil change you should have done when the OLM said it was time, you will be up poopoo creek if it comes to warranty work. I am going to stick with Mobil 1 for the Camaro.

There isn't a better full flow filter media on the market than the Amsoil EaO filter line or the Donaldson Endurance. Donaldson doesn't have filters for our cars though, they are truck oriented.

Damn straight. Amsoil filters are top notch. I'd say Mobil 1 EP filters are a close runner-up.

That's good enough for me!

I just purchased my Amsoil for an oil change. on the back of the container it states:

"Recommendedfor all domestic
and foreign vehicles requiring
any of the listed performance
specifications:
API SN, SM...
ILSAC GF-5, GF-4...
ACEA A1/B1
Ford WSS-M2C929-A
Chrysler MS-6395N
GM dexos-1 (supercedes
LL-A-025, 6094M and
4718M)

Fortified with detergents
that excededexos-1 sulfated
ash spcifications."

The 4718M is the specification listed in the 2010 owners manual.

Also see this from the Corvette forum

I'm not sure if this is the case here for the Camaro's but, when I was big into the Subaru's we had some engineer types that did some testing on Mobil 1 synthetic, what they found was that the oil was showing oil sheer. The explanation was due in part to the high heat in the Subaru motor layout and also because the same oil that was used in the engine was also lubricating the turbo and the high heat from the turbo was breaking down the oil. Now alot of us were making big power on those motors and switched to Shell Rotella T-6, kinda a diesel oil and never had any problems and was confirmed by tearing down race motors after a seasons worth of use. I personally won't switch to that on this motor until research backs it up (probably going with REDLINE) but its just food for thought. If your really hard on your motors from racing and what not I would personally stay away from Mobil 1 and use a true synthetic.
