I think it's probably safe to say a ZL1 and a 2012 GT500 would be drivers race in the 1/4 mile, I say look no farther than power-to-weight ratio for that. Of course there is more to it than that, but still they are almost identical in that regard.

Similarly, I think it is also safe to say that if 2010-2012 GT500s have hit 11s bone stock, a ZL1 will eventually do the same.

l think it would be a crying shame if the 650hp GT500 can't hit high 11s in the magazine tests, based solely on what we know now. Besides drag radials are just too cheap and easy to remedy any limitations of the stock street tires if for some reason the 2013 GT500 is still stuck in the low 12s.

Personally, I only remain skeptical on the 2013 GT500s road course prowess. Note I said "skeptical" not "in denial" I just want to see/read reviews before I make a judgement.

On another note, I'm pretty sure the ZL1 was tested against a Boss 302 LS, because they are both marketed as the more track oriented models of their respective brands. Not because anyone was afraid of testing a ZL1 vs. a 2012 GT500 on a road course. Besides I think for the time being, the Mustang Boss 302 LS is the sweetheart of the media, at least until the 2013 GT500 is out on the roads. I can't tell you how many times I've read that the Boss 302 is the best mustang ever.

I personally can't wait for the $h!tstorm that will be this forum when the '13 GT500 vs. the ZL1 review finally hits the public. I pretty sure no matter who wins, it will be a circus of excuses and explanations

In fact, there are gains to be had on the 5.0 with just swapping over to aftermarket shorties. The 5.0 responds to long tubes just as-well-as the 6.2 in the Camaro.

While we are on the subject of times....what do you think about this tire/tune only 2012 5.0?

This car ran a best of 120.74 MPH on the same evening.
Gees, you want me to believe that here's a Mustang guy that puts skinnys and full drag tires on his car and only has a tune to add to that??? Sure. If I wanted to I could post a half dozen or more 5.0 Mustang videos of them running mid to upper 13s and one at 14+. What do you think of that?

The purpose in posting ANY GT500 times was to show you that not one of them ran under 12 seconds. Simple as that.

And we can put a video of a ZL1 running 13.5 up if you want.

We all know what the 5.0 is capable.

I expect to see the ZL1 run the same times as the 2011-2012 GT500s. Even low 11s on a tire.

Why didn't YOUR car run 11.84s?....which is my point. Just askin. Not many performance enthusiasts put skinnys and drag tires as their first mods. But, maybe so.

hot and humid south florida, i dont use corrected times. 12.30@115.9 on road race shocks and springs in 80 degree weather

the 5.0 has a massive range of times out there, ive personally seen people in bolt on cars run high 13's the same night i ran 12.7 bone stock on oem allseasons

some people just cant drive lol

Did you forget the evidence that the driver said he ran a sub 12 second run in the ZL1? My point, once again, is that the current GT500, often dynoed at 570HP, doesn't run 11s at all. The 750HP suersnake (750HP) in the June 2011 Road & Track magazine ran an 11.7 on " a drag strip freshly coated with traction compound in cool weather" at Shelby's factory visit...now, the Ford guys are trying to tell me the GT500 550HP 2012 will match that equally equipped? If that's so, you don't get much for $34000 in a Supersnake, or you get quite a bargain in a GT500.

What's so hard to understand about these two cars being neck and neck in acceleration? The tests so far have demonstrated this, and the p/w ratios also back this up. Stock for stock it's a drivers race; much like an SS vs 5.0. The limiting factor being traction for both cars. Put a set of drag radials on, and the edge goes to the GT500. Why? Because it puts more power to the ground; SRA vs IRS.

I wouldn't hang my hat on the "under" 12 seconds "corrected" time either. If the times you're using for the GT500 aren't also corrected, you're not making a fair comparison.

You realize they tested the ZL1 at 4,000 feet?
