Engine COMBO already tested

Thanks guys for the comments. What you may find interesting is that in a way we really already know this engine setup is going to work very well because it was on AMP's ZL1 that previously set the world record for the fastest LT4 stock blower car in the world when it went in the 8's in the quarter mile almost FIVE years ago.

The heads, camshaft and ported blower on my car are IDENTICAL to that AMP car. The Throttle Body is not quite as large and of course this car will be running LESS boost than the AMP car.

The HEAT exchanger is MUCH larger on my car and it is a full weight car.

If I remember correctly that AMP ZL1 car made around 1100 RWHP. MY detuned version should be around 750-800 HP with a VERY flat torque curve.

We will see soon.

Additional UPGRADES

Well guys, I will be dropping off my car to my favorite electronics shop that I have used for over 30 years to get a COMPUSTAR security system installed along with a DRONE GPS system. Jim is the owner of this shop and he has an outstanding reputation. For you guys in the local DFW area I would HIGHLY recommend him. People come from all over to have him do their work He works on all types of cars and RV's

https://www.expertcaraudio.co/?utm_s...0aArN4EALw_wcB

My initial thoughts were to get a IGLA system but after talking to Jim, he mentioned to me that he quit installing IGLA systems because of intermittent problems he had with the system stranding his owners with the inability to start their cars due to the software not working properly. To further compound the problem, he mentioned that IGLA support was poor.

Jim's recommended going with COMPUSTAR and the DRONE GPS functions so thats what I am going to do. This system includes glass breakage sensors, tilt sensor to detect towing attemps, a VERY loud alarm warning and instant warnings to your phone if car starts up.

Jim uses the COMPUSTAR systems on his own car so thats certainly good enough for me.

I will do a video of on how all this works once I get it back. Installation will be an all day affair. Typical cost including all parts and Install is in the 800-1200 dollar range depending on car.

DYNO Day at AMP

OK to recap what AMP indicated to me originally, they felt like their STAGE4 upgrades would result in about 750 to 800 RWHP all done. Today I brought my car BACK to them after around 600 breakiin miles. Lower PULLEY is ATI 15% Overdrive Pulley.

The graph shows the RESULTS of the DYNO. I had to take a picture of the DYNO screen because their printer was not working.

All runs were done on E85. I am using the STOCK LT4 injectors, DSX AUX fuel pump for the LOW SIDE.

The 783.24 HP run was made with 26 degrees timing, 2.3 upper pulley, with duty cycle on injectors around 90%, BOOST 14.9 PSI.

The 773.30 HP run was made with 26 degrees timing, 2.4 upper pulley, with duty cycle on injectors around 88 %, BOOST 14.2 PSI

The 770.71 HP run was made with 22.5 degrees timing, 2.4 pulley with duty cycle on injectors around 85%, BOOST 14.2 PSI

Conclusion ANY MORE power and we would need MORE fuel delivery.

I am VERY HAPPY with results

SMOOTHBOOST being Installed

Ok guys, to provide ELECTRONIC control of the BOOST on this car as opposed to the OEM factory vacuum control, SMOOTHBOOST has been installed by AMP. This will allow me to manually adjust the boost on this car with the control knob you see in the pics.

The switch which has 10 position detent control knob that was installed under the console lid. You can either turn off boost entirely or you can modify the level of boost anywhere from ZERO to FULL boost which is about 14.5 PSI for my setup.

In testing it we noticed that the switch is NOT really linear. For example the difference between detent level 10 and level 9 is only about 20-25HP. But if you go down to Detent level 7, then the difference in HP is 80-100HP.

Anyhow I will report back once additional testing is done. The parts cost on the smoothboost and harness interface is roughly around 1050 for our cars. I am using it as a way to modulate the power so that the hit to the tires is not as hard when road racing.

Yeah I’ve been using my Smoothboost for 4+ years. I would not own a PD blower without it.

SMOOTHboost DYNO testing

Ok as promised here is the DYNO from the test of the newly installed SMOOTHBOOST on my car. First off, AMP slightly detuned the car down to about 744 HP from the high of about 780 HP on the last dyno. The BOOST level on THAT dyno was around 14.5 PSI.

The main reason for the slight detune that is the duty cycle of the INJECTOR was over 90% at that 14.5P PSI level. Remember that I am running E85 here also. SO NOW the Duty cycle of the stock LT4 injector is around the 86% level at around 13 PSI of boost.

So there are as mentioned in last post, 10 different detents on a rotary switch that I have now in my console. The RED line on the DYNO chart indicates the power level at BOTH the DETENT 9 and 10 Positions (full boost).

Blue line is DETENT position 8 on the switch which results in about 30 LESS HP.

Green line is DETENT position 7 on the switch or about 100HP less than what you get with FULL BOOST.

Yellow line is Detent position 6 on switch or about 200HP less than full boost.

The other detents are inactive currently on the switch. I will say that the throttle response is MUCH MUCH smoother with the SMOOTHBOOST than with the stock Vacuum set up. I have a fairly large cam so I believe at times that would affect the responsiveness of the supercharger. In effect the feeling was to me that the throttle was a little jumpy with the stock set up.

You CAN actually change the boost setting on the fly while the car is moving. It kind of felt like an old school NITROUS kick when I changed from Detent 6 for instance to Detent 10 (full boost).

I talking with SAM at AMP, he said once the car is tuned for FULL BOOST than any of the other setting DO NOT require any separate tuning.

Anyway, I know others have SMOOTHBOOST so perhaps they can chime in. LOL

FYI injector duty cycle is not a relevant data point on DI injectors. That’s for port injection injectors only. DI systems will use EOI and IPW to determine if you’re out of injector headroom.

Yes, as long as your system is tuned for up to the highest airflow reading the MAF will see, lower boost levels will not need additional tuning. You wouldn’t want to dyno tune the car on say, 7, on the dial and then decide you want to run the car at 10 since your tuner wouldn’t have seen what that additional airflow looks like in terms of fueling, timing, etc. I do like that with the Smoothboost, if you make changes to your setup, you can start on lower numbers on the dial to make sure all is well before dialing up to 10…all without changing pulleys.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I misunderstood in regards to the duty cycle on the injector. SAM at AMP mentioned that at the 780 HP level we were MAXED out with the stock injectors on E85 so that's the reason he backed it off a little. I have no doubt as well that we would need more fuel delivery from the fuel pumps if were to go beyond this HP level. We are running a 2.40 upper pulley NOW and originally used the 2.30 upper pulley.

90% duty cycle means catastrophic failure is around the corner. On DI we can only uses about 35% duty cycle MAX and stay withing the injection window of 6.0ms. Ideally you want to keep EOI around 180 for peak efficiency but it's still ok down around 150-160. I consider 140 or lower flat out of injection window.
