He says he tuned the car (the BCM) so that the seat ventilation buttons should turn the A/C on. The wording is a bit vague, but my understanding is he had done it before he went to the track and had the mishap.

Once you modded the car you forfeited your warranty end of story. It’s true when they say you must pay to play. What exactly went wrong on your motor?

Warranty from CALLAWAY has expired. GMC blaming CALLAWAY and vice versa!

Answers: Thank you for your reply.
1) Original warranty. I will contact the extended warranty when I get the written rejection from GMC.

2) Replaced original motor at a Chevy dealer

3) Waiting for written rejection from GMC. Must come through the dealer.

I picked CALLAWAY because they are a GMC partner, and the tune is CALIFORNIA legal. CALLAWAY SC750 does NOT void the GMC warranty, so they say!

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion. I am on the second engine.

The truth is that once you modify the car GM will not warranty anything. The car needs to be completely unmolested. I've been told that GM will even make the dealer send pics/vid before approving warranty. Not sure if that's true but I wouldn't put it past them.

Second, I do about 15 HPDE per year on average and I'm at the bleeding end of the Race group. Things are gonna break and truth be told, at our pace, engines get torn down regularly for inspection/rebuild. If you're running any type of performance package and not inspecting your engine every 3 months you're asking for trouble.

Jannetty tuned my car which is essentially stock plus a Magnuson 2650. It makes just under 700hp at the wheels. I would love a cam (not sure if the Callaway package added this), but I don't want to risk the increased service/inspection intervals. I'm on the fence. No matter how good the tune is you just can't get away from shortened service intervals.

Just a couple of questions:

1) How did you manage to wear through a clutch at 11k miles? Is it aftermarket? My car has 55k and the OEM clutch is perfectly fine.

2) Regarding your toasted Knock sensors and harnesses, are you running 2" headers? Are they ceramic coated or heat wrapped?

Given your use case, I'd probably look into picking up a used LT4 and going back to a conservative state of tune, then build from there gradually. Something with that engine seems problematic based on the symptoms/description that you gave.

Thanks for the reply. I am in California so I can only use the CALLAWAY tune. The only mod is the CALLWAY SC750. No other mods allowed in CALIFORNIA. No headers. No cam. Stock clutch. I am a woose driver, 5k to 6k rpm, so the clutch is another mystery. I am on my second motor (#1 original, #2 replacement from factory) with the same limp mode problem in 5th and 6th gear.

I picked CALLAWAY because they are a GMC partner, and the tune is CALIFORNIA legal. CALLAWAY SC750 does NOT void the GMC warranty, so they say!

Not correct at all but you have to leave the car in 100% stock condition and the drivetrain warranty must not have run out.

Otherwise you're on your own.. unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Metal filings were found in the oil pan, filter, and oil cooler. No codes, ran OK, except for limp mode in 5th and 6th gear.

Thanks to everyone for their inputs. I can't find any good info on the limp mode in 5th and 6th gear. I am putting the ZL1 1LE in storage until I can get some ideas about the limp mode in 5th and 6th gears. I will focus on my Firebirds. More reliable and easier to work on, sorry.

You might want to send out those metal shavings to a lab to see if it is bearing material. If it is, you might end up just refreshing that motor the play it safe. Otherwise you'll be back to square one a few months down the road.

That’s what I was trying to get at. Thought maybe he had a better idea of what went wrong.
