I've had my driveshaft out, literally, 5-times and can't fathom how it could be rubbing... Regardless - are you sure it's not a wore-out carrier bearing or something? Or tranny mount? It can't be cradle shift or something, being a ZLE. Are they sure it's not the heatshield rubbing on it? There's a single bolt-on floor brace, that's right behind the tranny mount area, where it's close to the DS, but your couplers would have to be hanging on by threads for that to be an issue. Something doesn't sound right...

Considering what happened to Andrew at CSP, and whatever driveshaft he was running (I forget...), I'd stay away from that CF one. That one let go in spectacular fashion.

At your power, it seems like everyone says that tranny needs upgrading.

I'll take some pics Monday.

He installed my new engine in February, so whatever condition is there is one that he's seen. The DS has never been an issue previously.

I wouldn’t run anything DSS makes. QA1 CF shaft has been very solid based on what I’ve seen.

I'm still on stock driveshaft but I have bent driveshaft bolts. The only way I could see it rubbing is if the carrier was really worn out letting the driveshaft move around alot. That or trans/rear cradle mounts are all out of wack letting the driveshaft get near the tunnel. I'm also wondering if its rubbing on a heat shield and not the actual tunnel but with you having a vibration, I'm guessing its that carrier in the middle thats a problem.

He showed me where the drive shaft was rubbing on the exhaust. I'll take it out probably tomorrow morning and it won't take but just a few minutes to find out if it's if that's what it was

For how you use the car and your power level, yes. Better to get ahead of issues versus having them start at a track rental or event and wasting the outing.

When I got to the shop yesterday, the car was on the lift. The rear main seal leak looked worse than I expected, and the bottom of the trans was covered with oil. Then we moved down and inspected the driveshaft and axles. I looked at him and said, "Considering the oil leak and inevitable clutch death, this would be a great time to replace all three." He surprised me by saying, "I wouldn't."

I told him Pure said to put it on a pallet and send them the address. He said, "Let's wait until it's closer to death." How many shops would turndown that project?

Oh, the noise is predictably worse since we did the rear seat delete, so we're going to do a underbody sound insulation tape.

Interesting response. I would see that as a reason to just get it done.

Maybe he thinks he’s looking out for you by helping you save money today, which really just means kicking it down the road until later because if you’re going to keep racing the car, it will need a trans rebuild. Once I got to the point of carrying a spare trans, we would preemptively replace it just so I had higher confidence that I wasn’t wasting an outing should it start having issues. It also gave Pure a chance to see how it was aging with abuse.

OK, the problem [vibration and noise] remains the same. I'm not a 10L90 expert, but I don't believe slipping clutches would feel and sound like this issue. It's very much like driving on the rumble strip. That it starts when the meth hits is the only clue, so I'm going to turn the Gain down a tad.

Check your VSS data when that happens and see if it is smooth as you’d expect. On a couple of occasions when I had a trans going out there would be a vibration and in the logs I’d have smooth engine acceleration but speed was rugged looking with some unusual peaks and valleys. At the same time, trans and TCC slip weren’t that bad.

Also, check the bolts on output shaft/rear cover to make sure they aren’t loose. I have had that happen also. Pure created a fix for that some time ago.

He said it was rubbing an exhaust pipe. But that's not the problem I hear.

We're going back to the last pre-meth tune and turn off meth to see if it does the same thing.
