I really wanted black but only red was locally available.
My main purpose for painting the calipers was anti-corrosion, not cosmetic.

The Duplicolor kit works well and has held up nicely, but as Glen e said, buy another brush because the one included in the kit is basically useless.
It will take 2-3 thin coats to cover without streaks.
Don't even try to do it in one thick coat, all it will do is sag or run.
If you set up all four corners for painting by the time you finish the last caliper you can start over and go right into the next coat.
It is semi-transparent so if you want a super bright and uniform color you must use an undercoating to evenly hide the original caliper surfaces.
Unless of course they were already painted as Brembos usually are.

If you want more color selections, G2 would by far be your better choice.
THIS!!! I did the exact same kit. Bought new brushes from Micheal's and I am impressed. its only been a couple months, but it is holding up nicely. I wash them with a brush every wash and nothing has faded.

There is most certainly a learning curve here. but once you do it once and learn, its easy.

I had only two issues. 1) as mentioned, THIN coats to. I was only able to do two calipers at a time and going back and forth was quick. I went on too thick and it ran down and dripped on my rims and I had a lot of standing around/beer time. Thinner coats worked out way better on the other side. live and learn. Also, I struggled with brush lines in the beginning, another reason I went thick. This product is really neat in that it almost gels up and fills any brush strokes after a min or so of stroke. Didn't know that either and would have saved me from some poor heavy drip stripes on the surface.
2) if your applying new brembo decals, DO NOT prep the painted caliper with alcohol. it will take the clear shine right off.

As far as the transparency, you can just keep adding coats and the black will not bleed through. The first 3-4 coats will bleed. This is another reason I went so thick right off the bat. But the little can is more than enough to do all four. I have about 1/3 of a can left.

On a side note, now that I know it is holding up, I will be ceramic coating them this weekend. The brake dust is even more visible now.

G2 brush on! It’s very good and self leveling! And tough.

Good job on painting the rotor Hats! They always rust and ruin the looks!

Glad to hear it..!
Actually, I am pretty happy with how it looks all in all (but still would have preferred black), and I too have roughly half the can left.
You can get "base coat" to go under it in silver which would probably make the red look awesome, but I could only find it in spray cans.
Maybe one of these days I will brush on another 2-3 coats of red, or maybe just keep brushing until I scrape the bottom of the can.
So far mine has held up for almost two years without fading or chipping.

Like you I also noticed that the surface of the paint tended to smooth out as it dried, partially or completely erasing brush strokes and minor imperfections.
Nice stuff!
