Why pull the trans? Just support the front and you can slip the motor in or out with no problem. I did have to loosen the cradle bolts get he oil pan to clear when dropping the motor back in.

Since you're doing this again this weekend, would you be able to do a write up with pics?
I know that would increase the time to the over-all project however, since you're already there...
Unless you don't have the time and need to get this done ASAP.

I'm not planning on pulling my motor anytime soon, but thought it would make a good write up since you've done this a number of times already...I'm sure the OP would appreciate it.

I’ll jump in. It’s because he has a manual trans. With the auto you unbolt the converter abd bellhousing and u you have enough room to go up.

yep, spot on, the manual you have to either
a) drop the trans
b) drop the subframe about 1 inch and yank the pan (what I did) cause I change the shifter and the new Hurst shift is very tightly machined and I did not want to go through that again... plus there is lots of stuff on trans and I was going to rebuild the engine anyway (i.e. the pan was coming off anyway. I would estimate it takes 10 minutes longer to install the pan under the car vs on the engine stand, no big deal, but it is more accurate in terms of gasket alignment (o rings actually) to do it on a stand.

Seldom disagree with Oldman, but you don't have to pull the pan on a manual, just drop the cradle an inch or so and it will come out. It's almost a line to line fit, can't be over a few mils clearance, but it will come out.

Probably so... I installed it without pan too, by my self no less, took about 10 minutes from stand to into the engine bay. I blocked the aftermarket mounts, installed pan and then drop the engine down with floor jack.

There are like 6 bolts that hold the cradle to the car, pretty long ones at that. I did unbolt the primary and secondary radiator cause I think it causes binding and I would not want to stress aluminum or plastic, from memory the big radiator has two brackets on the top and the side radiators have one bolt to the subframe on the bottom. Your luck may vary.

How did you guys get it?? I dropped the cradle an inch, supported the front of the trans and still can’t. Heads, ac compressor, everything is off. Motor is seperated from trans about 2 inches but won’t go further
