Engine removal from TOP

Does anyone have any links to a decent DIY for pulling and LT1 or LT4 from the top??? Ive got info on going from the bottom but dont have the ability to do that at home. My scissor lift doesnt go high enough. THX!

Try searching for posts by member Dubchitts. He pulled his motor to do a heads/cam job and did a nice writeup.

Pull the pedestal on the passenger side, it will come out from the top.

I see you're on the QJ, you could remove the hydraulic long hoses from the short hoses once the car is up and locked to move the pump and hoses out of the way. I did ask QJ if this was alright to do, and they said yes.

I give you credit for having the energy to do this job, the header install was enough for me...LOL!!

I thought about doing that but seemed scary lol. And yeah very time consuming, if you need any assistance just let me know.

You can have it out of the top in about 5-6 hours. We've done it a couple times and doing it again. You don't even have to remove the hood.

5 or 6 hrs is taking your time and doing it right, not rushing at all. Good tip about the hood, Greg. I never thought about that, just automatically pulled mine off as that's what I've always done.

If you don't have a lift, then there really no other way. Its very doable, i would advise removing the heads and water pump first. this will give you more clearance and less likely to bang something up

I've done it both ways, heads or no heads. Put it back in with the heads on, get someone to help you getting it out and you'll be good to go. Getting ready to pull mine out again this weekend. Oh joy

i'm sure its 10x easier for you auto guys, the clutch / transmission is no fun bolting back up. I am SUPER lucky that i had BMR solid motor mounts so i can drop the motor.. yes i said DROP the motor down through the existing / old motor mount holes so i can then bench press the transmission and bolt it back up to the motor... was not fun.
